Why in the world would Meier go unqualified?

With the most respect I can possibly have - I do not see any conceivable reality to which Meier is not qualified. NJ is not anywhere close to cap crunch time they have planned for his full QO for at least next year.

You'd think you would want them to be two 1sts, so you're successful next postseason. I guess not.

When Timo was with sharks, he vacationed with the Devils. Wouldn’t be a stretch to think he’ll want to stay.

(Also, we can take him to arbitration and skip the whole QO stuff…so worst case is probably him becoming a UFA in 2024).

After all the grief you guys gave us! You blame us for not wanting to give you the best package after what was said on here?! You had guys stomping their feet on the ground and screaming “NEMEC” or “MERCER” or no deal like little children. I’ll just sip my tea and I’ll take three straight cups ‘25-‘27. Enjoy poverty, sucks being there for a decade.

Sabres pass - there are other options that better fill their needs in the forward ranks and defense will be their first focus anyway

The additional details definitely nailed it, cuz it won't be CHI.

I can't speak for all Sharks fans, but I blame Grier. Not the Devils or their CF community. It was an awful package for Meier.

I will criticize your trades when they were Meier for Shara and a 2nd or Meier for Kuok (who I think got bought out?).
I thought criticizing was what this area of the site was for.
I said Holtz and a 1st in 2023 from the start by the way.

I'm glad you can admit it was a garbage trade now though.

Read the room man. There’s a reason I responded to this specific persons thread. He’s one of the ones who thought he was getting both arms and a leg. He’s just a little butt hurt about it and it’s funny.

yeah no way Meier is leaving NJ--they're going to work something out. I think he'll get closer to 8.5-9m still though, but it's obvious he wants to stay

Carlsson would be great for SJ, or Smith. They're in a good position.

Meier trade wasn't that bad and too soon to tell for either side. I think we all hope NJ has gained experience and will be able to crack the ECF next year

Sharks fan/Barracuda STH here - I'm really genuinely excited about Mukhamadullin and can't wait to see how he develops over the next year or two. I hope Timo's happy and thrives in NJ and I hope he makes it to the ECF next year grin

I don't think it's out of line to expect decent talent for a top line winger. To a degree.

HEY
Meier for Kuokkanen was my pitch (over 2 years ago).

Fwiw I think Grier did quite well to get 2 1sts (if the condition hits), Mukhammadulin and Zetterlund.
Zetterlund was having a great season at the time of the trade so I was very surprised to see him struggling the way he did with the Sharks.

Wingers rarely go for as much as you think they should, and that 10m QO poison pill (which the Devils have yet to deal with) unquestionably drove the trade value down.

Haha, didn't mean to just drag you into this. Was just using the example!

I think it's fair to say the Devils have a pretty deep team and those picks will be glorified second rounders.
I'm not surprised to hear you say Grier did well. As of right now, you gave up a 3/4 dman and a 5/6/7 dman for a top line winger who just scored 40 goals.
The package was quantity and it won't really help the Sharks much. I'd be happy to be proven wrong. His tenure as GM is short I hope.

Tbf that’s one of the worst ever takes I’ve done related to hockey.
