I like the picks; but this just means our rebuild could be over soon.

Maybe Stevie is trading Wallinder and Johansson for future considerations.

Montreal isn't going to move out of the top 10 for a late 1st and early 2nd.

Ruins the plan of a 23-man roster of 20 LD, 3 goalies.

Fun fact. Detroit has missed the playoffs for the last 7 years. In the last decade, They still have more playoff victories in the second round than the Leafs.

This gives us what, 12 million? To extend Seider, Raymond, Rasmussen, and Berggren and find a goalie the following offseason? Just to ice a mediocre team?

We're trading Seider for 3 LDs.

No on Dvorsky (work ethic is bad), no on Reinbacher as Pelikka is better.

Pittsburgh fans will laugh, but the reality is that is what it would take to rid themselves of over 10 million in cap space.

Montreal probably says no, but if it is Michkov at 4 and Montreal doesn't want him, they can likely get just as good a player at 5 as they can at 15, and the players at 29 are likely to still be good. It isn't totally off.

Detroit declines that Vancouver trade. Yikes.

Oh that OEL contract would be bad for us. I don't think it's worth it honestly. I would do the Pens trade, I don't they want to trade their first this year though.

MTL picks at #5, not #4. And no, they wouldn't trade #5 for two picks outside of the Top-10, including a very late one...unless it came with a nicely wrapped Raymond, Seider or Edvinsson on top.

Sorry, I typoed 4. I would take Michkov at 5 though, if I were Montreal. If they don't want Michkov, as in they don't want to wait for a few years, or don't want a winger, or have a thing against Russians, then trading down is not bad. In this proposal, the trade down would likely be for Detroit's 9th overall though, which is fine for Montreal since the talent at 5 is about the same at 9 or even 15. I'm not certain Detroit would trade any additional 1sts, but a 2nd (early 40s) in this year's draft is like a late 1st in other drafts, but I doubt Montreal would go for that. At 9th, Pelikka or Reinbacher are likely there, Moore/Smith/Yager/Leonard at center, or a number of wingers. Whatever position Montrwal wants to address, they can at 9, which is like a top 5 in most other drafts. Any of the guys I just listed would have been top 3 picks in last years draft.

#9 is a completely different story, because it ensures MTL can get their hands on one of Benson, Leonard, Dvorsky or Reinbacher. At #11 (Vancouver's pick), you might miss them all...and I don't think Hughes gambles #5 unless a) he's 100% sure he'll get one of the player he wants and b) compensation to drop is interesting enough.

Someone on another DET ACGM proposed #5 and #37 for #9 and #17...that's the closest I think Hughes goes.

9 and 17 for Michkov is tempting. I'd probably do it, but I'd do everything possible to get a pick to take Pelikka. I have a hunch in 5-10 years, the redraft will have Pelikka in the top 5.
