I’m not a canes fan and I would be shocked if they said yes. A top pairing dman and a cost controlled top 6 forward AND they have to take on an additional $5M in cap.

The price is fine for Duchene but I'd rather hang onto him rather than retaining 3m for a late first. He's still a 60+pt player.

Hard to see any team retaining 9m, especially the Preds

The calendar says 2023, not 2022 - any interest the Sabres had last summer in Murray is long-gone and over with.

Soon as one of Jarvis, Slavin, Pesce, Aho, Svech, Burns, Nikishin, Necas, KK are mentioned the Canes say no. Necas might be the only one, but not for Marner.

They have enough grit, they just lose every year because they have 1-2 offensive threats.

Marner is certainly better, but you aren't just paying for the player in a vacuum. You are taking into consideration being able to extend and being able to talk contracts right away and that his salary will be cheaper in the long term. As much as it was said SJS didn't give GMs a chance to talk extension prior to the trade, I do believe Fitz had more of a discussion with guys like Nico and Siegs that have a connection with Meier.

Canes decline in a heartbeat. Slavin for Marner 1 for 1 is a no from Carolina. D are FAR more valuable than forwards and a fringe Norris contender that makes 5.3 is worth WAY more than a great playmaker that makes 11 million.

D are so valuable that none of them get paid as much as forwards. I love Slavins defense but Marner's 30-35 goals and 95+ points is more impactful

Slavin for Marner straight up is a downgrade for the Canes, in particular the way the canes play.

Major disagree. Slavin is a borderline Norris candidate and if there was an award for best DFD, he'd walk it annually. Not to mention, he's got HALF the cap hit of MArner. So, Slavin is the more impactful player, he's got the better contract, and that's why Carolina laugh at this.
