Assume in 2023-2024 Demko bounces back to the Demko Canucks fans know (true star goalie), what could his value be in the trade market?

This would be a mistake. PIT is in no position to weaken their prospect pool.

That doesn't matter. If they want to contend with the top 6 still producing at a high level they need to bring in a good goaltending and scoring depth. This accomplishes that.

Hard no. Demko is good but not elite (not yet). He could be great but he needs more data to prove it. Garland is worth maybe a 3rd.

The Pens might offer a 2nd and 3rd for Garland and Demko. Maybe 2024 1st instead of a 2nd.

They aren't trading their two best prospects (Pickering and whoever 14 overall is) for a goalie with a 1 WAR 5v5, a -0.5 WAR on the PP, and a -1 WAR on the PK. His overall WAR last year was worse than Jarry or DeSmith.

There are "lots of good goalies in UFA and even RFA this summer. Makes a trade difficult for the Canuck, especially if you think no cap is being return to the Canucks.

Canes don't really have a need, Freddie is probably the same caliber when he's healthy, and Demko hasn't shown the cleanest bill of health as of late anyway. With Kochetkov already taking the position of young, psychotic goalie, don't really need Demko

Fair. That offer is more suitable for Hellebuyck than Demko, but don't overvalue Pickering. He's a project who likely won't be NHL ready for 3 to 4 more years minimum. If you can move him for help now you have to consider that.

Demko played through an injury for the first half of his season until he was shutdown. Last season's numbers are a throwaway.

          Demko at 5v5
          20/21: .925 SV%, 6.67 GSAA, 7.89 GSAx
          21/22: .933 SV% (3rd best), 26.42 GSAA (1st), 19.81 GSAx (3rd)
          22/23: .920 SV%, 4.43 GSAA, 7.14 GSAx
          22/23 after return from injury: .930 SV%, 7.72 GSAA, 8.22 GSAx

His numbers this past season are down because of the 15 bad games he played while hurt at the start of the season. He also plays in front of a historically bad PK and one of the worst defenses in the league. He’s a top 6-8 goalie in the league

Bro is straight up LYING. He had a .918 after injury. INFLATED to **** by 2 games against tanking Chicago and Anaheim to end the season.

His 5v5 SV% after coming back from injury was .930

And just because he had good games against bad teams that isn’t a negative. Should he have let goals in instead would that have been better? The players on those team weren’t trying to tank and weren’t just taking bad shots for easy saves

In the heat of the bedard race in the final three games lol. outside of those 2 games he had a negative GSAx after coming back.

That’s a lie. I couldn’t get specifics for the Calgary game in between those two games (where he had 41 saves on 43 shots), but he had a 0.96 total GSAx and 2.1 5v5 GSAx if you exclude his last 3 games. How shocking his numbers are worse if you take out good games. I’m sure if you took out his 2 worst games he’d have been top 3 in GSAx rather than the top 5/6 he actually was

I don't know what source you're using for GSAx but demko ranked 89th/107 goalies with a -5.7 GSAx (would have been -10 without his inflation against tanking teams) per moneypuck

I’m using evolving hockey. I used to mainly use moneypuck but was told by someone on here a year or two ago that moneypuck wasn’t a good source for goalies and that evolving hockey was better

I like Demko, but a 27-year old goalie coming off a down year probably doesn’t get 100 cents on the dollar. For Vancouver, they should hang onto to let his value recover. For New Jersey, the return would have to include Vanecek. From there, it would not be a franchise-altering piece.

Say Demko comes back to normal next season. As either a trade deadline or next offseason move, would could the Devils offer?

Will depend on Vanacek, Schmid, Daws, etc.

But I could see Vancouver, selling two years of Demko in 2024, getting a little more than Kuemper (late 1st and former top-100 prospect)…a little less than Ryan Miller (starting G, top-100 prospect, late 1st, 3rd and a contract)…maybe something similar to Halak 2010 deal (top 50 prospect and top 100 prospect).

My problem with Demko is not his numbers but their sample size. He has exactly 1 season of a starters workload (50+ games). I wouldn't trade a 1st, hoping he can handle more games in a season. The tale of Matt Murray should scare teams there.

Demko played through an injury for the first half of his season until he was shutdown. Last season's numbers are a throwaway.

Last seasons games represent 20% of his career games. I get that he was hurt but it weights against his trade value.

He has 1 season of a starters workload. I personally think he is great but I also wouldn't bet my job on it.

I don't know what source you're using for GSAx but demko ranked 89th/107 goalies with a -5.7 GSAx (would have been -10 without his inflation against tanking teams) per moneypuck

Oh man, this is going to be a little rough. You uhh.. forgot to read.

So, I went to Moneypuck and found the 89th/107 stat, and I found your 0.918 stat. They're all-situations stats, which is *not* what mv was talking about lol. You just skipped the first line in everything he said.....

          Demko at 5v5
          20/21: .925 SV%, 6.67 GSAA, 7.89 GSAx
          21/22: .933 SV% (3rd best), 26.42 GSAA (1st), 19.81 GSAx (3rd)
          22/23: .920 SV%, 4.43 GSAA, 7.14 GSAx

You have to make sure you understand everything someone says.. He clearly stated 5v5 because the Canucks had one of the worst penalty kills of *all time* last season.

He clearly stated 5v5 bc DEMKO sucked on the PK. Colin delia managed to have a positive GSAx on the PK

No, the Canucks penalty kill was actually on pace to be the worst all-time when Demko was out.

And that certainly doesn't explain you calling him a liar, using all-situation stats to try and call him out when it wasn't what he was talking about.
