Long Term 2C

Created by: UpsideDownQue
Team: 2023-24 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2023
Published: Jun. 9, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Also extend Toews 5x7M - may have to trade Manson in 2024 to make it work though

Maybe giving a bit too much to WPG considering the PLD situation. Ideally a guy like Olausson would be substituted for Newhook but I think it ultimately depends on how many teams PLD would sign long term with and how much demand there is for him

Trades
1.
ANA
  1. Malinski, Sam
Additional Details:
A big reason why Malinski signed with the Avs was because he wanted to work with Greg Cronin before he was hired as the Anaheim HC
2.
CBJ
  1. Ambrosio, Colby [Reserve List]
  2. 2024 4th round pick (COL)
3.
COL
  1. Järventie, Roby
  2. 2024 1st round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
2024 OTT 1st is top 10 protected
OTT
  1. Girard, Samuel
Additional Details:
I know OTT has Chabot, Chychrun, and Sanderson already but one of Girard or Chychrun could play the right side. Girard fits with the age group of this D core and also with the Sens competitive window

Value is based on Hronek (mid 1st + mid 2nd), Provorov (22nd overall + mid 2nd), Romanov (13th overall minus early 4th round pick), Sandin (late 1st + rental Gustafsson), etc.

Overall I think a 1st + decent prospect is pretty fair market value
4.
COL
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc [RFA Rights]
  2. Gawanke, Leon [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
PLD agrees to extension
WPG
  1. Beaucage, Alex
  2. Newhook, Alex [RFA Rights]
  3. 2023 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Dubois forces his way out of WPG but they still get a young forward as well as some futures

Value is based on Reinhart (late 1st + Levi) and Fiala (mid 1st + Faber) trades

Ideally the Avs would send the 2024 pick but I think WPG would push for the 2023 pick

Still not enough for PLD. Yes, WPG would insist on the 2023 1st. But even then, still not enough.

Referencing... "Value is based on Reinhart (late 1st + Levi) and Fiala (mid 1st + Faber) trades"

PLD's upside is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than both Reinhart and Fiala.

He's in his prime years and has barely been cracking 60 points when do you think hes gonna be getting better?

I disagree on him having higher upside. I think all three of them will max out at just over a point per game in their best season. Fiala and Reinhart have already had >1P/GP seasons while Dubois has a career high of 0.86P/GP so far, they are pretty comparable players imo

He's 24. He didn't like playing under Torts and in CBJ at age 22 as the most dominant player on CBJ. Then traded to WPG. Injured a couple of times at age 23 in WPG.

Got his stride back at age 24 and had a very solid points production season.

He's NOW in his prime and ready to dominate. I predict 70 to 80 points on whichever team trades for him.

Can you tell I'm trying to "sell" him?

you're doing a good job of it tbh. but the avs can't really part with more. and if PLD's list of teams he would agree to a trade with is only 5 or so long, this is a great deal.

If I was Colorado, I would never look into PLD. When he gets frustrated, he will show -100% effort to his team

If you want a #2 Center, Go get Elias Pettersson. It will cost more, but he isn't a quitter like PLD

I don't think it's too much for PLD at all, especially if it's for a rumoured sign & trade for 8Y that was reported. I would even counter with Olausson for Beaucage.

That AAV looks a bit light for what his rumoured ask is, but it was also reported he'd take less if the team was an immediate Cup contender, so who knows.

Newhook is definitely someone I want to see in WPG, but Beau is an AHL player and that pick is at best going to garner a 3rd or 4th liner. Betting one or more of the other teams that PLD and Brisson will negotiate with will give a better package.

Try adding Behrens and Annunen.

Ottawa isn't giving up a prospect and a 1st to add to their biggest position of organizational depth.

Not to mention he'd have MacKinnon's shadow to try and step out from for extra motivation. I think the f***er could thrive over there. I'd hate it.

Imagine playing behind MacK? You have a phenomenal leader / talent to watch and take all the pressure. You get less attention and don't have to face the other teams best shut down players, etc... because they are all focused on MacK.

And, if you don't give 100%, MacK smacks you stupid, so you know you better give 100%, or you are going to get smacked HARD.

This would be a HUGE win for the AVS. Make it happen!!! The AVS need more cups.

The point was to have either Girard or Chychrun play on the right side. I know Ottawa is deep on LD but both of those guys have experience playing on the other side. Plus after the Severson trade there arent many RHD available anyway, especially young ones

Doesnt have to be Regenda, could be someone else who is a high end AHL/fringe NHL player around the same age or just a draft pick

I think in COL there is more accountability from teammates than most teams which should keep him in check, plus they have legitimate cup chances so he will probably be more inclined to give 100% anyway

Pettersson would be a great addition but I cant imagine he will be available and even if he was it would probably take Byram+++. Hes a top 10C in the league, it would probably take a bigger package than Eichel (would be worth it though)

If he's limiting where he wants to go to 3-5 teams, I wouldn't expect much more than a 1st+ decent spec, I would def take that as WPG. When the rumor was that he would only go to MTL, I was expecting FLA's 1 and a mid spec, now that there's a few teams that's he's willing to go to (per rumors) I would expect a better return, but still not "fair" value or a great return

that is a dumb re4ason to use assets for a position you have depth at while ignoring hole s in you line up, OTT is not trading assets for a Dman

Just here to drool over PLD in Colorado. Really the perfect fit behind MacK for the rest of our window.

Just give me MacK, Rantanen, PLD, Val, Makar, Toews, Byram, and Georgiev for the next 5-6 years and see how many cups we can win. Healthy Landy is just a bonus at that point.
