Ideal offseason targets

Description
Are any of these realistic? Probably not, but you’re not moving a star for the sake of moving a star. It’s got to be for a difference maker. The leafs biggest need is probably a long term top pair RHD and these are the guys who have some small chance of being available in my eyes. Also these are obviously just rough ideas of trades.

So the guys who are team controlled, in this case everyone not named Pesce, you're not getting for a rental Nylander. They straight up have more value than Nylander. As for Pesce, Carolina shot down a Laine deal for Pesce when Laine was scoring 40 goals. 1 year of Nylander is unlikely to make them move him

Nylander can be extended. Obviously if he’s traded it will come with an extension or the leafs won’t get good value. I understand how valuable Pesce is that’s why I’m saying these are all stretches but just in case Pesce can’t be extended the leafs should absolutely hop on that. Also I would argue Nylander with an extension has more value than Laine did but I don’t want to get all the way into that right now.

Jiricek isn't going to be moved and if the Jackets take another big swing it'll be for a center, not a winger.

I doubt they would trade him either but with Severson, Peeke, Gudbranson, Boqvist, and even Ceulemans on that right side it’s a little crowded. Nylander can play center if he needs to but I understand wanting a true center especially if your giving up a guy like Jiricek

Nylander can also walk into free agency. Unless an extension is included, you have to take that value at 1 year

Because it would trading roster pieces would basically make it a trade just to trade and the hurricanes don't do that

Yeah, and none of those guys is someone you prioritize over Jiricek. Jiricek's the second or third best D prospect in the league and is 19 coming off one of the best seasons a teenage defeneseman has ever had in the AHL. He's not being moved, period. Jarmo might have gone a bit wild this week and I don't trust him like I used to, but I do trust that Jiricek is not on the block.

sure. let's assume it's 50/50. Doesn't matter. they aren't trading their best RFA for a likely rental even if Landy doesn't return.

THis may sound crazy to Leaf fans but, Byram would only be available in a Matthews trade. I don't think they'd think about trading him for a winger in Marner(as great as Marner is)
