Can't see CBJ interested in 30 year old Hertl on his seven years remaining.

Well, considering their most recent pick ups I wouldn't put it past them.

So MTL doesn't pay a lot on top of the 5th and gets the 3rd overall pick and Boqvist?

SJ is by far losing this deal. Very easy no. When Grier put the team up for sale last year he said everyone is on the block EXCEPT Hertl. Here we lose our highest draft pick since Marleau and our 1C and biggest fan favourite. Its a massive no for SJ.

You're right. Seems like the CBJ GM is desperate. He helped cause the mess with CBJ, now he's giving away good picks just to pick for iffy contracts.
Not sure why he still has his job.

They give up a 1st rounder, early 2nd and a very good young d man. Harris is underrated by the entire league it seems. 87th percentile for WAR while being a huge play driver and decent defensively. Doesnt have the points because the Habs stink

how, they only move down 1 spot and trade away a player they dont need (also saving 7m aav) and get a late 1st, early 2nd and a very good and young LHD for their rebuild

I know Hertl won't be easy to replace this upcoming season. Is his current contract good value.? Starting at age 30, a seven year deal at over 8m. He's a second line centre at best right now and has peaked. IMO there just will be better ways to spend his cap.

The 1st rounder is basically an early second (would have been in prior to 2017) and Harris isn't better than a lot of young defensmen (only including role defensemen) currently in the NHL (Wifi, Lilly, Boqvist, Haugue, Sandin, Durzi, Samuelsson, Jokiharju just to name a few off the top of my head)

Honestly nothing will convince me that this trade is good for SJ because it is frankly one of the worst things I have seen on here in years. Your logic is senseless but you be you.

Worse you have seen in years? Apparently you just joined in June. San Jose has a habit of extending their players well past their prime. I guess Wilson and Grier has convinced their fandom that it's necessary to hold onto their own UFAs at any cost. Pretty senseless to me.

You were complaining about 3m for 2 years in another post about Armia because the market is small but the Sharks get an out on an overpaid 2nd liner whos contract ends when hes 36 when the team is just starting a rebuild, and actually receive assets for him without retention suddenly makes no sense to you

And that early 2nd could be considered a late 1st just depends on how you look at it. The reality is. That draft pick is 31st overall and there are 32 teams in the league, so its a 1st round pick

The difference in between the 31rst pick and 37th pick are so similar

Wifi, Samuelsson and Durzi clear for sure, I'll give Sandin and Hague =, but that's if you really don't like either player and I'll give you Jokiharju

Xhekaj has a 0% WAR, hes the worse Dman in the league

Samuelsson has lower xGF per 60 and xGA per 60

Durzi the same and hes a powerplay merchant. he stinks 5v5

Sandin is better offensively but marginally but is much worse defensively

Hague has worse numbers than Harris while being played in even more sheltered situations

Sharks give up the only legit player in the whole deal and are somehow the team moving back in the draft.

Value to move from 4 to 5 is at minimum 5 + 31. So your deal is saying that the value of a top 6 center that has produced at a 68 points per 82 rate for the last 5 years (4 of those being on one of the worst teams in the NHL) is 37th overall and a LHD (which SJ already has literally 11 signed to contracts next year).

If somehow SJ got the same package but were the team moving up to 3rd overall, that deal would make sense. But in this scenario, SJ is giving up 2 of the 3 best assets and getting minimal back in return.

I keep having MTL fans tell me how valuable Wifi is though

Samuelsson is also playing 1st pairing minutes

PP quarterback is valuable, just ask Tyson Barrie

Sandin hits like a truck though

Hague has worse numbers because he's playing those sheltered minutes

Why don’t the Sharks just trade their 4th and Hertl for 3rd and Boqvist and leave the Habs out of it. That would probably be better value for both teams.

Yeah, trading that single 22OA in 2023 is going to be the rebuild-breaker. You right.

That'd be a terrible deal for Columbus, for one. And OP is a Habs fan who doesn't really care if the other two teams get screwed.
