-Both teams decline. Toronto can get better value if they truly wanted to move Nylander, and the Islanders shouldn't give up that many assets for a player they do not have the cap space to extend - CF currently has the Isles with $4.987M in cap space summer 2024. Subtract Pageau and that hits $9.987M in space with only 10 F/6 D signed. Even adding 1 F/1 D at league minimum puts them at about $8.4M in cap space with a 21 man roster. Unless Nylander loves the Island enough to give a major hometown discount, I don't see how it works.
-Hawks already have one of Toronto's unwanted goalies - I can't see them taking another without a much better sweetener than Robertson. Remember, it cost the Isles a 2nd rounder to drop Josh Bailey's $5M AAV off in Chicago - and that was pre-July 1st, when there was a lot more cap space available around the league.
-The value is probably fine but this feels like a trade for the sake of a trade - both pending UFAs, just opposite handed D. Feel like the Canes say no, seeing as they're giving up the younger player here.
