As an outsider, the idea of Scheifele to Seattle is interesting. But I think they would get him to hold down the fort until Wright is ready, not trade Wright away.

Trading a high end young cost controlled defenseman for no blue chip assets is how you stay mid

Hawks decline. A 4th liner and a 3rd doesn't come close to covering the cost to take Schmidt.

    1. It’s only for one year

    2. We had to reach the cap floor, now that it’s been reached those two guys are unnecessary

-Feels like Nashville might hold out for a little more here - even in general, I feel like Winnipeg would have to give extra to convince Nashville to take their 2025 2nd instead of the 2024 they already own; when you factor in that the 2024 2nd is key to your offer sheet, well, I think a good GM would hold out for more than a warm body like Jensen Harkins as a sweetener.

-Shane Wright and a 1st is a huuuuuge price to pay for a Mark Scheifele rental. Seattle would pass on this.

-Flyers pass. They can more for Konecny than a 1st, a mid-tier prospect, an expensive bottom-6 guy, and a couple other pieces of flotsam.

-Chicago got a 2nd for eating 1x$5M of Josh Bailey; I think they would need more than a 3rd & an AHL forward to eat 2x$6M of Nate Schmidt.

-Isles wouldn't make this trade. The value isn't terrible, just a little "quantity over quality", but nothing that Lou Lamoriello has done this year strikes me as a team that's going into a rebuild. If Lou move Dobson, it's not going to be for futures - it's going to be as part of a package for an established NHL star.

-Heinola to me would be better used in one of the other trade packages - he's not the sexiest prospect, and probably needs a change of scenery, but dumping him for a 3rd and a guy picked in this year's 7th round is selling very low on him.

Those two deals got the Hawks to the cap floor for this season. Meaning they can now demand top assets to take $12m cap dumps like Schmidt.

how will it be easy? It's hard to see him signing a team friendly contract, and I don't think 2.3m (I checked again) will do it.

Noone is trading "top assets" for cap dumps it's more than a fair return with cap space to burn in non competitive years

the odds of any one of those prospects becoming impact players is under 50%. Lambert is boom or bust, the others are C/B- prospects at best

It will be easy because his bridge deal will be between $2.5m and $2.75m/year.
