Ek65

Created by: leafs101
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 22, 2023
Published: Jul. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
TDL Wishlist becomes, in order:
- Two way 3C to shift Domi to LW (if he’s not best used at C or if Robertson/Holmberg struggles there
- Burly bottom pair RHD
- 3rd goalie option
- (very much a wish, can do without but…) another Lafferty esque 4th line wing

If we can get some deadline LTIR relief, that is.

Somewhat questionable fact of the matter is that we’s already have to trade Klingberg to make this work. But I think this is one of the few circumstances where you just do that to a freshly signed player.

Why would Carolina do this? Nylander's okay, but this would leave a gigantic hole in the right side of their D core. For Skjei? Maybe. Moving Pesce makes 0 sense unless they are certain of getting an EK deal done and that is why Pesce is still in Raleigh.

Plus, you wouldn't get a 1st on top of Pesce for Nylander, and Carolina would not be the team paying for retention, Toronto would

I just can't fathom how folks like yourself think Karlsson has a huge amount of value. His age and injury history are huge issues, and his contract is absolutely untenable for the entire league.
Frankly what is given here is an obscene overpay and you want more? Good grief

EK65 in not worth 3 great prospects and 2 firsts, just trade him for Nylander

Nylander is more valuable to the Leafs goals than all of these pieces.
    Absolutely not

    Pesce @ $2m probably means Carolina doesn’t have to add much…especially not 1st, 3rd, 5th

Klingberg was just signed as a UFA so there is 0% chance he gets moved in any deal

You sold our whole farm system for Karlsson (also SJ is on record they will only retain a few Million on him)

you added retention to the Canes deal that does not require that because of your other deals

I think a Nylander for Karlsson deal would be a good option but the retention needs to be right. Assuming Nylander is not budging from $10M+ extension

"Hey Seattle, we know you had the chance to sign Klingberg as a FA if you were interested, but we decided to overpay to sign him so he'd play for us, because we were desperate. But you're in luck, we'll let you take him and his bloated contract off our hands for free, so that we can acquire another defenseman, one you potentially rather have. Sound like a deal?"

Yup i put the max pay i could possibly see bc ik people will complain, i originally had no Duke and no 2026 1st. But then factored in the pay for moving murray just a bit more

Or maybe he chose Toronto over Seattle but things change after we got EK because he no longer has the same opportunity. But ok, all just hypotheticals that none of us actually have any knowledge of

Nylander would arguably become the best forward on the Canes and at worst #2 to Aho, gotta give up to get. If its Pesce 1 for 1 we could get better offers for him as a rental, let alone with an extension. Would probably suspect canes bring back TDA following the move.

Nylander would maybe be #4... Necas is already putting up comparable totals and is 3 years younger, if he takes another step this forward he'll eat Nylander alive. Oh, and then there's Svechnikov.

So Canes run with the right side of Burns TDA and Chatfield? Nah, they're going to want a DFD to replace Pesce, specifically for the PK.

It's funny how you just don't mention the fact of the massive retention on EK, that Duclair is in the deal aswell and that Murrays contract goes the other way.
And you still find it an obscene overpay on Torontos part, come on now.

He has more Goals and points then everyone on their roster but he's #4?

I think Aho is the only forward in the conversation but Nylander is better

Aho is better right now. End of conversation, that is the gods truth.

Necas put up comparable totals with a supporting cast that was not as strong as Nylanders. Without Tavares at 5v5 and Matthews, Marner on the powerplay, that production will drop. I'd rather have Necas. Svechnikov is better than Necas and if I'd rather have Necas than Nylander, property of extension. So yeah, 4. That's not including if Jarvis chooses this year to recognise his potential, or if Kotkaniemi holds hhis second half scoring pace

Yes. Karlsson is a distressed asset who is wildly overpaid - meaning he has zero value. Less than zero actually.

He is also old and has an extremely long injury history that regularly saps his ability and removes him from large portions of the season

Easy pass from Seattle. Klingberg is nothing they want to deal with.
