Yep, horrible move not to buy him out, but it is what it is.

D core stays with the same guys as last year, only change is Lundkvist in for Hanley/Miller full time this year. Everyone in the dcore except Suter will either improve or stay the same.

Only thing that worries me is how much of a burden Suter will be on whoever. Hoping they put him with Miro cause he’s the only one that can take it (put respect on his name because out of all the top 5 defensemen in this league, he’s gotten by a f*cking mile the worst partners out of the bunch).

According to ACGM’s no gm with space would take Jarnkrok even for future considerations. I have a hard time buying a team with space and few forwards wouldn’t take him for free.

At the 2022 TDL, Jarnkrok at 50% retained cost a 2nd, a 3rd, and a 7th. Since then he has only gotten better. I could see some teams trying to use the Leafs cap situation as leverage in a deal, but it wouldn't get that low. At worst he's worth a late 2nd. I wouldn't even explore trading Jarnkrok though, cap can be shed in other ways

What other ways? I’m not seeing other options unless you’re talking a Nylander deal.

There are a few situations, ranked here from most to least likely:

1. Trading Timmins and Lafferty
- Can deploy a 21 man roster, recoup some draft capital.
- I don't personally want to trade Timmins, but it seems likely at this point.


2. Nylander trade
- Pending UFA who won't back down off of his 10 mil ask. It's either now or never for a Nylander deal, and we all know Treliving isn't opposed to a big trade. My guess is that the Leafs are waiting to get some clarity on the Nylander front before making any cap moves. If he extends then you look at Timmins and Lafferty. If he doesn't, then you trade him
- It's not overly important, but I could see a Nylander + Timmins deal. I hate the old Pesce for Nylander trope on this site, but it just seems so likely at this point. Pesce is apparently being shopped, a bigger named prospect in Jack Drury supposedly requested a trade, and Carolina supposedly wants a bigger name forward. Seems like the stars have aligned.



3. Brodie trade
- Seems very unlikely, but he is a pending UFA making 5 mil who could definitely return us some assets. I doubt it would happen now, as the extra cap space we gain from moving Brodie can't be used to sign any decent UFAs. I threw this idea out there a few weeks ago

Leafs can run a 21 men roster without putting Timmins on waivers.

Lafferty and Reaves on waivers. Nobody will claim Reaves with that ugly contract. Maybe Lafferty but I doubt.

They will use some weird cap shenanigans to reach the cap limit before putting Muzzin and Murray on LTIR. I was able to reach 772$ cap space by putting on waivers Reaves only.

Would be ideal IMO, but I just can't see the Leafs waiving Reaves. Seems like they plan on him being a mainstay on the roster

I feel they will waive Timmins but who knows. Now I dont want this to happen but if Knies goes down they can have 2 league min guys and have a 21 man team

The idea of giving up talent at the top of the roster to increase press box depth is not a decision any competent GM is going to make. But then again…..
