Flaming Cs 2023b

Created by: dukester
Team: 2023-24 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 3, 2023
Published: Aug. 4, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Colorado improves for the short term with the addition of one of the best defensive centers in the league, the cost is significant Olausson is a promising RW that has had a sup of coffee in the bigs, but is yet unproven. Miles Wood is a journeyman LW that gives Calgary some additional long term financial security.
New York Rangers receive one of the premier two-way centers in the league so they can make a significant cup run before contracts start running out, they need to be in win now mode. Chytil and Kaapo I think are good enough return that Calgary can see their way out of a bed Lindholm situation.
Washington getting Hanifin may be a stretch, but I think Washington wood like to take another serious run before the end of the Ovi years. Calgary gets a replacement center that my make up for the loss of Lindholm to the Rangers.
Toronto gets a quality backup goalie that may be able to steal some net time at a reasonable price, they may need to do a little cap juggling to make it fit. Calgary makes room to get Wolf some NHL starts and gets a prospect in Petruzzelli that still has significant upside.

Rangers easily decline, they're not trading half their future for an expiring UFA, especially when they already have a solid 1C in Zibanejad.

Caps look to make another run by moving out a top 6 center on a great contract, a young defenseman with second pair upside, and a second round pick for one year of a top 4 defenseman when they already have multiple LD who can play in the top 4 and do it well.

I think there could be interest in backlund come deadline if they aren't comfortable with their current centers, but the trade is going to have to be different than that. They just signed wood to a 5 year deal odds are he isn't moving. There would also have to be a 3rd team retaining on backlund with you guys eating half to make it work.

Leafs don't the cap or the need for Vladar right now. Now if an injury came to their two top goalies, maybe.
Lindholm isn't nearly worth four years of Hanifan, never mind the rest.

That Avs trade isn't bad but Wood will not be an option. If that happens the trade will look different. Decent value tho

That Backlund trade is really optimistic for COL. Olausson is a bit of a disappointment so far, Miles Wood might be decent but that contract is kinda crazy for a bottom 6 guy and a 3rd is meh. I’d hope you could get better for Backlund.

Our goalies are Sammy starter and Woll backup/tandem

So we have 0 need for Vladar

So Woll would not be going on Waivers in the first place.
