Team: 2023-24 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 7, 2023
Published: Aug. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
CGY
  1. Grzelcyk, Matt
  2. 2025 1st round pick (BOS)
  3. 2026 2nd round pick (BOS)
BOS
  1. Hanifin, Noah ($2,475,000 retained)
Additional Details:
If Boston can't make a trade for a Center, they might go for Hanifin, he's a Boston area kid and he played college hockey in Boston and they are probably the team he'd like to sign long term with the most
2.
ARI
  1. Grzelcyk, Matt
  2. Rooney, Kevin
  3. 2024 4th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Half cap dump and half improvement on defense for Arizona if they think their prospects need more time in the AHL
3.
MTL
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (CGY)
  2. 2026 3rd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
I know Habs fans love him but, with Reinbacher, Hudson, Guhle, Mailloux and Barron all expected to have more potential than him and that already he's expected to slot into the 6-7D spot next season, the Habs might be open to trading him.
Calgary doesn't have a ton of D prospects so getting a 22yr old with NHL experience would be good
4.
CGY
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (CHI)
CHI
  1. Vladar, Daniel
Additional Details:
I went with Chicago but, it could also be Buffalo, Florida, Philidelphia, Vancouver, St-Louis or Arizona. Any of those teams might chose to improve their goaltending tandems for next season but, it's a trade more likely to happen in September\October after teams see what they have after preseason

WTF is that Arizona trade? Why would Calgary pay a 4th to move a top 4 defenseman?

BOS doesn't really need Hanifin that badly, their LD depth is pretty good. If the price comes down then maybe they consider, otherwise they'll explore their options next summer.

Romanov was traded for the 13th pick and you think you're getting Xhekaj for 2 3rd rnd picks ?!

Glad you listed those other teams in the Vladar deal because it's a no from the Hawks.

Why did Petry require a 2nd round pick to move + cap retention?
It's also moving Rooney's 500K in buried salary. I understand your argument but, for a UFA with only 1yr left and will most likely not resign it could cost to move him

Fair enough but, if they would want to lock up a guy like Hanifin, risking it at FA and getting into a potential bidding war could hurt them.

Your team literaly just gave up a 2nd rounder and retained salary to move a top 4 defenseman, this isn't that crazy

Romanov made the team at 20yr old and average 19+minutes, Xhekaj only played 15ish minutes on a team with a lot of injuries with most of the top4 guys missing 20+games and only Kovacevic played almost every game.
Romanov also only missed about 10 games in 2yrs, Xhekaj missed more in his only season.
I could see a 2nd and a 4th but not much higher, Romanov had less points but, we know who the better of the 2 players was\is.

I get your point but, Soderblom got lit up quite a few times last year and next year isn't expected to be much better, wouldn't it be better for his confidence to play more games in the AHL and win and dominate.
Don't forget more than any other position, Goalie is a very much a balance of mental and physical, don't want a Goalie that thinks he sucks and starts playing the way he feels because the team in front of him can't stop a nose bleed

Romanov is not rare like Xhekaj, the combination of the speed skill and toughness is special

Then why was he the least used D man? Why is he projected to play behing Guhle, Hudson, Mailloux, Reinbacher and Barron long term?
I understand your a fan, he's a good player but, let's not exaggerate what he is right now, I hope he develops on a team that makes his development a priority like the Flames could since they don't have much else but, he's not a priority in MTL

If Boston feels the same way you do then why wouldn't they just wait till FA? If Hanfin really wants to play for Boston most wouldn't he take a discount to play for them, making a bidding war not as big of a deal?

Dudes want to play for certain teams sure but, let's not pretend that every player wants to take a discount and that money isn't a big motivation for a lot of players

Soderblom had a stretch mid season last year where he tried playing through a minor injury. He was bad at both the NHL and AHL levels. Once he healed up he was very good. He played 2 pro seasons in Sweden before coming over and now two more in the AHL. He's seemingly ready for regular NHL ice time. There's also not enough ice time for him in the AHL. Hawks have Commesso and Stauber as their AHL tandem. Trying to rotate 3 young goalies in the AHL isn't a good situation.

It was his first pro season, no AHL time and no mens league overseas, also when you have 101 penalty minimum in 52 game's it tends to affect your ice time

The likelihood of those picks graduating to be more impactful in the nhl than Xhekaj are slim to non, so why trade him if he's doing very well for us as a 6th defenseman

You could always loan out Commesso or Stauber to another AHL team for the season but, I see your point so fair enough

It is, but still why doesn't Boston wait till FA? If we assume Boston is a preferred destination for Hanifin then another team would likely need to give him an above market deal to edge out Boston (assuming Boston offers a fair market value).

If you look at in small picture. Big picture we moved alot of cap for a quality elite dman in return and a depth forward.
