When’s the last time that a “elite” goalie (besides Vasilevskiy) won the cup? Legitimately curious. It seems like winning the Cup is less about track record and more about getting hot at the right time.

Fair point but how often does a team with one of the elites also have enough depth to win a cup? The only other team with an elite goalie who could say they’re good enough were the Rangers but if Laf and Kaapo don’t take some serious steps forward they also will be just a pretender.

He won't leave for free, unless the jets decide to keep him as an own rental.

Then he leaves as a UFA. Unlike Scheifele who looks to have some interest in resigning here he hasn’t shown any interest.

Georgiev was very good for the Avs last year. Not sure I’d pull the trigger on a pure rental goalie when the guy we already have was excellent.

Giving away Girard for peanuts is a nonstarter.

In a tight market like this where almost everyone is up against the cap he’s simply not going to fetch much.

True, looking at my list of elite goalies:
Shesterkin
Sorokin
Vasilevskiy
Adin Hill
Saros
Hellebuyck

The only one that’s on a serious cup contender is THE GOAT ADIN HILL (and Shesterkin if you cover both eyes and squint).

But to the point of this post: adding Hellebuyck makes the Avs a lot more like the Lightning 2-3 years ago: stacked team with an elite goalie.

In that case, why trade him? You’re trading a bunch of assets and giving away a top 4 defenseman for nothing so you can replace the goalie who just put up a .919 last year. This feels like a move for the sake of making a move.

Goalie isn’t a position of concern for the Avs but you just made defense depth one. Avs are one injury away from Jack Johnson playing top 4 minutes.

Good team but the depth isn't great, really banks on Drouin and Kane doing well and neither of those 3rd pair dmen can handle top 4 minutes like Girard can if an injury happens.

This team would be a contender from having Mac, Makar and Rantanen not from adding Hellebuyck.

To me the Avs would be better served to build out their depth at all positions instead of adding Helle, their goaltending is fine.

Avs won a cup with a one eyed Darcy Kuemper. Last year they got bounced from the playoffs due to a lack of scoring depth. Georgiev wasn’t the problem. Repurpose all those assets into a top 6 option and you have a better team.

Unlikely, unless that's what management wants.

They won with a tandem effort. Georgie is good enough to win by himself as long as he's fresh for the playoffs. This trade destroys the team.

Still as easy a no for the Avs as it was last time it was posted.

I feel like all the avs fans saying we need to get rid of Girard has created this insanity of "someone take girard off our hands for free". 2nd Round pick starts the conversation for Sammy G, but I'd like to see a decent prospect as well. He's a fast, scoring defenseman in a league where only about half the teams have that type of player. Everything everyone else said about Georgiev is also true. We don't need this trade.

Hronek trade from last year is still the minimum return for Girard imo. If Newhook cost what he did then Sammy realistically costs more.

And if we can't get a decent return for him, use up his contract and let him walk if that's what's going to happen. Not the worst thing ever.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I'd trade Sammy if the return was right, just as I'd trade anyone for the right return (not a fan of the 'untouchable' tag, if Gretzky could be traded anyone can), but if nobody wants to pay up then you hold onto him, it's that simple.

Wrong sport, but when this philosophy isn't followed you end up trading Nolan Arenado to the Cardinals and paying them 50 million for the privilege of doing so lol.
