Kings have every reason to trade him.

Starter?🤣

1. You want value back before you ruin him on the 3rd line. he is currently the highest his value will be as a member of the Kings. Hes 4th on the depth charts and none of the 4 play as a winger.
2. If he does have a good year, no money to resign him
3. Kings have a goaltending duo of Copley and Talbot.
Copley had a 4.7 GSAx
Talbot had a -0.7 GSAx
Monty had a 11.8 GSAx

Nearly 3 times has much as the both of them combined on a much worse team. Oh and hes cheap.

No. Even if it was the highest of your 1st round picks.

Byfield is playing 1LW and eventually 1C. Anyone speculating that he will play on the 3rd line doesn't know what they're talking about.

Copley broke a Kings franchise record to the fastest 20 wins in franchise history. He finished 24-6-3. What was Monty's record last year?

LOL, Habs fan commenting on another team's top prospect development issues.

Will MTL give Byfield the Slaf strategy? You know, force him into the NHL before he's ready, make him play depth minutes, barely any PP time, wreck his confidence, and get him injured half way into the season?

No one develops top prospects quite like MTL

Not saying it's not a bad trade, but geez, really no logic to think Kings have a logjam wiht Byfield. Quality centres can always find a ice time either at cenrte or wing.

If Byfield did have a break out year, he would have more value then he has now, so no need to be scared off that. They also would just need to find a way to sign him for the year (he will have no arb rights so might be pretty easy), two, or three, and they would have plenty of money to sign him.

I'm curious though where do you think he would slot in for MTL? He's going to have to be competing with a lot of other young guys for a top 6 position. Down the middle, there's Newhook and Dach, in addition to Monahan. Two of the three Cs + Slafkovsky will then be competing for the 3 remaining wings along with Pinard even if they relegate Anderson and Gallagher to the bottom 6.

No, but my point was that Copley clearly got the job done. So why give up the Kings best young player to replace him?

well this is a bad trade for sure. but i feel the kings will want to get an upgrade, there is a reason they trade for korpi last deadline. i expect them to make a move at some point during the season.

They're going to give every opportunity to the three NHL goaltenders they have. If none of them step up to take over the starting job, then I'm sure they'll look to bring in a rental at the deadline.

Byfield has been on the top line and that's where he's expected to start the season.

If you think the Kings are trading Byfield for your so called "starter" you are out of your mind.
