Out of the box Nylander trades

Created by: Leafsfan98
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 19, 2023
Published: Aug. 19, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is when you know hockey season is dead... The same Nylander trades happen all the time and I'm bored of them... so let's make an entire new crop of homer trades involving Nylander that'll get a new wave of fans angry

Note: Please rip these trades to shred if they aren't fair... Just trying to find fit, a good return and who knows, this Nylander/Matthews trade/resigning might pop up in an hour to make this thread look bad
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Korchinski, Kevin
  2. Nazar, Frank [Reserve List]
  3. 2026 2nd round pick (TOR)
CHI
  1. Nylander, William
Additional Details:
Nylander pairs with Bedard to keep Bedard happy and Toronto gets 2 good quality younger guys they can plug into their depth.
2.
TOR
  1. Kuznetsov, Evgeny ($2,500,000 retained)
  2. 2025 2nd round pick (BOS)
  3. 2025 2nd round pick (COL)
WSH
    Nylander

The theory here is that Washington goes all in with Ovi nearing retirement and Wilson being a year away from that awful contract and Toronto gets a more experienced guy that should help them make a bigger push
    3.
    TOR
    1. Faulk, Justin
    2. Krug, Torey ($3,250,000 retained)
    3. 2024 3rd round pick (NYR)
    4. 2025 3rd round pick (STL)
    STL
      Nylander

Three way deal: Stl Louis gets: pick random boring Nylander return and the 3rd team gets Nylander retained and retaining a little bit on Faulk from St Louis

Remember how Treliving said he wanted to rework the Leafs defence? well he does that while not really losing cap space and that allows the Leafs to give a chance to the young guys and sign Kane to place on LTIR
      4.
      ARI
      1. 2024 1st round pick (TOR)
      2. 2024 4th round pick (TOR)
      3. 2025 3rd round pick (TOR)
      4. 2026 3rd round pick (TOR)
      Additional Details:
      Nylander

Leafs go all in on Cooley, Treliving still gets to rework the Leafs defence, Arizona gets an additional 1s, still still flip Nylander at TDL w extension at half retained while only costing them 2 retention spots
      5.
      ANA
        Nylander

Anaheim get Willy with an extension at 9x8... Leafs get a fantastic prospect, a depth defensemen who knows the system well and a depth forward piece while claiming cap space... While ANA gets a very good player to add to the core and should help them compete in a couple years

When you say "they acquired half of their top 4 via trade" What do you mean? Stamkos, Hedman, Kucherov, Vasilevskiy, Point, Cirelli, all drafted by TBL.

I mean McDonough and Sergachev were both acquired via trade (I meant top 4 defensemen)

Realistically, Nylander would start declining in 4/5 years, at that time, most of the core will have already hit their primes

Yeah, but you can also not get anyone in FA and go back to being bad for the next few years while your core continues to age... who's to say any of the better FA will still be available this year... It's time for ANA to make a move IMO

With or without Nylander, the ducks aren’t a playoff team. They can swing for for a big FA next year and even if they miss, the type of offer moving a blue chip prospect for a stud in his prime is still on the table. Not sure why now would be the time to pull it to go from being a bottom 5 team to a bottom 10

Nylander doesn't fit the Hawks rebuild period. Let alone trading away 2 of their top 5 prospects. The Hawks are not in a win now mode, they are building stil.

Just adding Nylander to their core (IMO) will make them a lot better, faster... And I want to see Zegras in the playoffs

Nobodies offering anywhere near these returns for a winger that needs a new deal with a history of holding out to get his way. Resign matthews to a ridiculous deal and trade Nylander for a couple picks. Use that cap space on a defense upgrade

I think the Washington is the only team that accepts and I'm not sure that really even helps Toronto that much. Kuznetsov is definitely a downgrade from Nylander. There is a 6yr age difference and with the retention you're only getting about $1.7M in cap space. Plus those 2nd round picks do nothing to help Toronto to win now.

Drop Faulk of course and drop retention on Krug

        Blues would consider that

Nylander, a 1st and late picks... And I could see it if Armstrong wants to flip Nylander, he can... If he wants to keep Nylander, and have an additional 1st either way

Not a chance AZ trading cooley - AZ has too many picks as is. They just signed dumba not trading him either before season starts. Willie is on last year, no way AZ has any interest unless signed for some years, then why would they flip him after he signs deal or he doesnt sign and TDL but he is a rental and not going command that much (to offset loss of cooley) and even 50% is tough for most teams. Nothing in this trade makes sense.

I thought Bedard would want to play with a very good player and very good players cost things

Not our best defensemen prospect and our best right wing prospect

That would be a good 2nd option but why not go bold and get Bedard a very good teammate for the foreseeable future to keep him happy?

If rather pay for someone who I believe will make an instant impact and stay consistently good over someone who will fall off when he doesn’t have Tavares and Matthews to wipe his ass

Marchment and Verhaeghe don’t count because they never played a minute with Toronto

Also are you forgetting James Reimer, Jack Campbell, Kasperi Kapanen, Andreas Johnsson?

Logan Cooley's worth that much? I know it was a stretch to ask for Korchinski and Nazar... But why not, but Cooley's that valuable

You have more time to work a deal out though and you can, in theory, sign him for less

Doesn't work that way, and not a chance, Chicago would even give up Korchinski alone for Nylander as a rental and unlikely Nazar alone making Korchinski, Nazar and a 2nd nothing shy of offensive of an offer.

Let’s both cross our fingers they land him in free agency this off-season then! squinting with tongue out

Sure, at 10 mill after the Leafs trade him at TDL to some contender for a lot of stuff that helps them win the cup

I know it was prob too much on Chi's side but I was just talking on theory of why I'd think Nylander to CHI

Logan Cooley's worth that much? I know it was a stretch to ask for Korchinski and Nazar... But why not, but Cooley's that valuable

Cooley is definitely worth more. The kid tore up the NCAA as a freshman and will likely go down as the best player out of the 2022 draft. He is also under team control for the next 8 years. He is the future of AZ. But it isn't so much the price as it is their timeline. They aren't giving up their new rookie possible face of the franchise future for a pending UFA who wants a huge raise and doesn't really address any needs for them. They need the affordable and hopefully surplus production in Cooley's ELC years. Late round picks probably don't help your case all that much, either. Rebuilding teams, or teams coming out of rebuilds, generally don't give up their best prospects for aging expensive and/or expiring players.

I’ve gotta echo this. Cooley is maybe a top 5 NHL prospect, but all but certainly top 10. And this is coming from a Ducks fan.

In general, I don’t see ANA, CHI, or ARI as viable trade partners. Rebuilds aren’t going to flip top prospects for Nylander when they’re not on the cusp of competing. Better odds with WAS/STL
        ChiHawk and Garak liked this.

Yeah... No, Nylander's way more valuable than Krug

Yeah that’s not the point, the point is the blues wouldn’t do the trade as is and it needs to be changed

Maybe... But it would need to be Krug++ if both are involved in a trade
