Not sure if these specific trades work - looks fine to me! - but I am really warming to the idea of getting some veteran to eat minutes at RD this season because I think within 10-15 games Zaitsev is either going to be in Rockford or "injured." He looked simply awful last year in the few games he played in CHI.

Not sure what the incentive is with the CBJ trade?

One team extremely deep with RHD prospects without much room at the NHL level any time soon, and another super deep with LHD. Swapping of formers late 1st to rebalance organization depth for each.

Washington and Columbus trades make sense for Hawks. Not sure they do for Caps or Jackets though. Hawks don't make that Toronto trade. Hawks aren't trading Murphy, but if they did, Niemela and the value difference between the 1st and 2nd doesn't come close to paying for Murphy half retained. Hawks lose that trade big time!

Not to mention, Chesley, Ceulemans and Niemela? Seems like overkill in the RD additions.

eh, not sure Allen would be in any better of a position being behind Mateychuk and Svozil. I'd rather keep CC.

But the Jackets don't need LD prospects either. They have Werenski for for foreseeable future, Provorov and Bean for now and then Mateychuk, Svozil, Knazko, Strathmann, and Richard in the system. Ceulemans has a much for projectable NHL future in Columbus as a 3 RD than Allan would as a 3 LD.

Chesley+3rd is probably too steep a price to pay for washington to dump mantha but the TOR trade I think would be a fine move for us though, just means you have to go out and sign a 2RHD next offseason

Agree on all 3 RHD prospects being overkill and more throwing out ideas on how/where to potentially get one or 2 and not necessarily all 3 moves. On the Toronto deal, I debated sending back a 3rd as an offset rather than a 2nd (quite a bit actually) but settled on what I did based on being able to move a pending UFA D that plays 21/22 minutes a game at the TDL for more assets. I don't view Brodie as a negative asset or a dump but rather more or less a neutral piece. While he creates cap dillemas for a team over the cap currently (which is why Murphy retained would be attractive), at the TDL he would be easy to move (easily a 2nd and probably a sweetner on top).

As everyone has said CBJ says no. But my reasoning is how much more value a RD has than a LD. So swapping one of one here losses us value. Not saying no to the base of the trade just saying you’re going have to add some sugar on top just due to right vs left value.

Concur. I still am surprised Zaitsev wasn't bot out this year by the Hawks. Maybe there wasn't a whole lot of benefit in doing so? Guess he has just has to be buried...
