Description
the chances of this happening are 0. on both sides.

But I like the idea of bringing Zegras and Caufield back together. (Jack Hughes in 7 years).

Is this enough to pry Zegras out of there... Is is too much - let me know :) and let the rocks fly!

Anaheim should consider seeing as it will be 2 top 10, if not top 5 picks and they have McTavish and carlsson

If Zegras signed that, ANA would jump to match quicker than a kangaroo on a trampoline.

I reckon Harris' value is pretty much a late first too.

I think ANA would go for top talent only, so maybe Suzuki 1 for 1 or Reinbacher + unprotected 1st ?

nah, not trading our captain and/or top RHD. I want to improve the team not do a lateral move. Zegras is not a 100 pts nor a PPG player (yet).

Habs solidifies the core for uncertain assets.

Zegras is kind of overrated. He is good, but is he worth selling your future for?

I doubt they are both top 5.

Next year I expect the habs to miss the playoff due to the strenght of the Atlantic and not because they are the worst team in the league. probably picking 10 to 15.

Short Answer? No
Long Answer? Yes

The cost is high and Short term it sets our build back wasting Zegras's prime years in a reset
Long Term if those holes are filled in the players we gave up then half way through our top line's contracts we'll contend with depth
But its saying we'll play losing seasons for someone else to get our 1st round top 10 pick and that's the hardest sell about all this.

I mean Long Term i think yes only because i Expect that Beck , Roy , Farrell, Tuch ,Hutson, Reinbacher and Engstrom will all be here in a position to take NHL jobs in the next 2 years , Lets say half them bust then my whole hope of Longshots stepping up to fill the gap is toast

Easier to just wait until we have that top 5 pick next draft and parlay that into Zegras even if its at the risk of him being overpaid.
The more they overpay him the less have to over pay them . We have the cap to accommodate for up to 5 years before it becomes a real problem
Even then it would cost us less to clear cap then to pay them in hopes he'll sign for less cause Caufield and Suzuki did

I think the habs were unlucky due to injury in the last 2 years and that skewed the team's performance (Suzuki is the ONLY player to have played 82 games in those two season - check it out, it's crazy).

I don't think they can compete for a playoff spot against TML, TBL, BOS, FLA - but they are a lot better than their standing in the last two seasons. If healthy - they'll do a lot better than what is anticipated.

And we wouldn't accept an offer for anything less than what you'd consider a "lateral move"

We need star talent, we've got more than enough middle 6 players to fill out a roster, which is all you are offering in this proposal.

The best luck you’ll have getting Jack Hughes is getting the one in LA

Well Mailloux is projected top 4 RHD.
Newhook has got the potential to play top 6.
and 2 first that probably will be early in the draft. Zegras was drafted 9th OVR and those picks are projected around there.

but again - we are both in a rebuild and I 100% understand why you don't want to trade him. This post had no aim to be realistic.

...and so does Anaheim.
They too are looking for core pieces, not a bunch of assets that may or may not have an impact at NHL level.

It all comes down to, as you said, both team having absolutely no reason to trade these players.

So here's a better question then
What Talent on a 3rd team rebuilding would work?
For Example VAN Petterson, OTT is listening on Pinto ,Lindholm in CGY and Nylander in TML, ext

I figure a 3 way deal might do it?
Or is there still just no interest?
