Eklund?

1 yr Nylander for 7 years of parayko +++

I don't think I'd do it straight up if I were the blues even if they both had 1yr remaining.. have you seen their top 6? No need to upgrade and severely downgrade Defense

Blues would jump on that to get out of his contract. This deal is a bit overboard though.

St. Louis giving up 7 seasons of Parayko and probably 7 seasons of Kyrou (because he's still a RFA) for Nylander is a wet dream, not a rumor, never mind the first and the second.

Doesn't make any sense at all for the blues and every action the blues have taken this summer suggest that Parayko is the defensemen they want to keep. Nylander doesn't make sense for the blues in that they are deepest on the wings, weak on defense, and will be highly unlikely to pay Nylander what he wants on his contract

If STL did this move, the whole team should be relocated. Ridiculous trade.

Get out of what contract parayko is a good player worth the money, you're over estimating Nylander and underestimating every other player you trade him for

this is literally speculation from a trade rumours site, they call it speculation on the page where this came from. It is not a rumour at all

nah, his contract is awful and he's been in decline for years. The leafs want nothing to do with that contract

Let’s leave aside that most likely outcome is nylander stays & extends with Leafs (team & player have both stated that is their preference) … Parayko’s contract is awful given his age and deteriorating level of play. The rest seems fair value for hypothetical Nylander trade but just can’t see the Leafs taking on that albatross

Well that's a leaf fans opinion I don't think that it's the blues organizations as well.

As an avs fan I see alot of the blues and besides the entire team having a bad year there, parayko is just fine

well that's just an avs fans opinion, and he hasnt just had a bad year he's had a few, and he's getting worse every single one. It's called decline and it happens.

Armstrong would never do this deal. It’s beyond ridiculous. It’s not even worth going into the myriad of details of why it’s so bad.

Nonsense, Parayko hasn't been good for years (by his standards, still a top 4 Dman). Nylander for Parayko 1 for 1 would be a massive win for the blues.

No it wouldn't, Nylander scored almost half of his points last year on the powerplay with matthews marner tavares.. parayko is the type of dman everyone wants on their team.. Nylander has 1 year on his deal, parayko has 7 cost controlled with the cap going up.

You leafs fans are going to see that if they trade Nylander the return package isn't going to be an upgrade which you all think it will be, and it'll be a lot less than Nylander current value to the team as he is essentially a cap dump (because toronto can't resign him)

From a pure value perspective sure. But once you factor in extending Nylander for 9m a season going forward and us having exactly 0 defenseman who can play any extended time in a defensive zone against a 2nd line let alone top line, you see the issue. No cap space, no defense, and no way to fix the mess because of no flexibility. Adding a 1st or a 2nd and really even neighbors is pure lunacy. Trade Parayko and we are a bottom 5 team and there’s no fix to that any time soon.

parayko already said he has no interest in waiving, he likes STL and wants to be here. nor do the blues really want to dump him.

Sure, I'd agree with that. More moves would certainly have to follow. Brodie would be available after this deal (the same reason it makes no sense).

My comment was about the one for one. Blues shouldn't be moving Kyrou, Thomas or Neighbours for anything that isn't a massive overpay.

Yeah value alone for sure. The issue is any team that is valuing him more than a rental is also aware of the reason a lot of Leafs fans are wanting to trade him. It’s hard for a lot of teams that are in a competitive window to put together a package sufficient, have the cap space and have the need for a scoring forward. Not a knock on Nylander at all. He’s a really good player.

The Blues just physically cannot afford to move Parayko, or pay 9m+ to a winger without a complete overhaul. And a complete overhaul is extremely difficult to constructively think out as landing spots would need to be found for Schenn, Leddy, Saad, Faulk, Krug, Binnington and Hayes. Aside from Krug and maybe Binnington I don’t think any would be terribly hard to move. But once you move one cap space league wide gets slimmer and slimmer while you get worse and worse and have to sell these solid contributing players for Pennie’s on the dollar. Factor in the NTC almost everyone listed has and it’s an even more impossible ask. And it cant be achieved if 75% of those guys aren’t traded. They’re too good as a collective for us to get anywhere near top 5 but don’t mesh or aren’t asked to play proper roles for us to be contenders.

Our whole next two years is banked on Parayko playing 20 minutes a night + in a shutdown role with a partner is a veteran who has never played that role, and Kyrou and Thomas evolving their game to be safer while keeping up production. We’re so limited in being able to make moves without blowing a hole somewhere else that would need to be adressed
