For Columbus I'm making some assumptions:

1. Jarmo is feeling some pressure after the whole Babcock situation and need to show so progress this year.

2. Jarmo realizes that it will be difficult to compete in 3-4 years with Severson/Johnny/Merz all post their prime/overpaid taking up $20M+ in cap.

3. Columbus still highly valued Marner. Rumour was they offered him $13M when he was an RFA.

Additional Details:

Gives Vancouver someone to replace Myers on D with high upside. Another forward prospect with a low ceiling but who has played in the NHL and likely is a 3rd/4th liner in future. Jones is a decent backup so their young guys can stay in Abbotsford.

A 1st for Garland at this stage is a W. Retention is about 35% instead of 50% as well. I feel Garland can be replaced for less than 3.2M in Vancouver's lineup so this saves them cap space.

A RW doesn't make Columbus a playoff team. Wing is not the problem, and certainly not a reason to throw two of their top prospects at.

Marner has a FULL NO MOVE. Meaning he can't be traded at all or even sent down to the minors. he is a Toronto boy and loves it here.

Columbus will also not be parting from Jiricek.

Toronto should also not be sending a 1st for Garland.

Marner hates Columbus and we hate him.

He has a full NMC

Jarmo is under pressure not the influence. This a horrible trade.

The last thing that's going to happen after young players were put in a compromising position and the HC was removed because of their reporting to the NHLPA is the trade off of young players.

Leafs fans: the Jackets offered Marner $13M four years ago, before Gaudreau and before Laine. We had no wingers, now we have four top-6 locks (Laine, Gaudreau, Marchenko, and Johnson) and plenty others who could still push them for it. Give it up.

Also, we cannot overstate how unavailable Jiricek is. The only Leaf he'd get moved for is Matthews.
