We NEEDED to improve the defense. This isn’t a case of shouldn’t have made that trade but rather we had to find who was going to not stick.

If the jackets move anyone, it should be either boquist or peeke. The moves made in the off-season, disregarding what was paid to get them, drastically improved the defense. CBJ got two established defenseman that can munch minutes, that are now slotted behind a healthy Werenski. With Jiricek and Mateychuk on the horizon, it makes more sense to get rid of the two previous stated at the start, since I believe both players can wipe the floor and drastically improve CBJ's defense even further. The situation they're in is amazing to have, take it from a flyers fan, (even though I do not miss provorov).

columbus went and acquired good players to fix a bad position group, and now people are like "uhhhhhh why would they do that? now they have to move players who are less good than the ones they just got, sounds like a big mistake!!!!!!"

like, yeah, they absolutely should have made those trades. it makes the defense better. even if they only get like a third round pick for peeke that'll offset the cost they paid to get severson and they will have essentially upgraded from peeke to severson for free.

I would have skipped the Provorov deal. He wasn’t very good at all last year.

Still better than icing Tim Berni 70 games. He can handle 20 minutes a night and is never injured. Instant upgrade over the flotsam and jetsam who played on the left last season in Columbus.

Jake Bean should be the first to go.

Could see Provorov having a solid season and proving his haters wrong.

Unforunately, there isn't really anyone behind him to take 3LD because they already sent Mateychuk back to juniors. The logjam is on the right, so it's Boqvist or Peeke (or honestly both, since Blankenburg and Jiricek are both RD).

All about that tender being legit again, take the pressure off him with a better blueline, and the better off you are, going 8 deep pretty standard, but ya losing someone to waivers or a hockey deal to change one out not a big deal. Have them as a surprise team, so we will see how it goes

They’d probably like to undo the Gudbranson signing or move him, but that’s gonna be tough for them to do
