Attention!

Vancouver fans will say it's not enough. They're going to want you to add Caufield and Suzuki. lol

MTL wouldn’t trade the pick if it was #1 or #2 …

I don't think Petey would accept it. The whole point of him wanting out of Vancouver is that they haven't been a competitive team, unless Montreal makes some really big strides this year in a tough division I don't see them being a suitor for Pettersson.

A few thoughts:

1) This is a bad trade from MTL's perspective, in my opinion. They give up team control, and a cheaper cap hit on a young player at a premium position who fits their youth movement. Petey's amazing, but I think some of the cap/contract context doesn't really make sense for MTL, unless they are okay to accelerate out into the mushy middle and feel they've stock-piled enough to carry them upwards into the elite of the NHL.

2) Canucks fans will likely say that Petey won't want to go to a bottom-dweller. I don't know if that is his issue. It is more the Canucks philosophy or quick fixes that consistently limit their ceiling - which is now biting them in the butt - that I think he is mindful of. That is my perception anyway, from out here in BC. He is a smart player. Therefore, he may see a team with DIRECTION like Montreal as appealing. No guarantee, but I think the issue isn't them (the Canucks) losing, but more them not having a legit plan to contention.

If it is 3, I'd do it, if it's 2, I would be torn, if it's 1, definitely not, Celebrini has a higher potential than even Petty, and he is younger obviously

Why would any team trade a 100 point 1st line center who still can get better who is also a great two way player for only 1 draft pick even if it was top 3.

Sorry, but when you draft you pray a guy turns into the player EP40 is. This is no where near enough. Canucks decline.

I would keep the pick...and send Norlinder, Mailloux and Harris for Pettersson instead.

I don't know how to tell you this but the Canucks are probably a playoff team this year and the habs aren't.

MTL is in a way tougher division with lack of goaltending or defence outside of Matheson. Canucks seem to be firing on all cylinders and finally have put it all together.

It's definitely an interesting question. I mean you take Celebrini hoping he becomes Pettersson. So you're not really getting any upside really. But if he is good you get the cap savings of having him on ELC and then signed as a RFA. I think the value is a little off for the Canucks, but maybe they do it if they can't sign Pettersson.

Huh?

How does a kid who hasn't even been drafted yet have a higher potential than an existing 100 point 1C who plays in every scenario?

This site never ceases to amaze.
