I feel like Josi is worth more than that but, it is similar to the Karlsson package, a 3rd team did take the bad contract but, I do see the point your trying to make

First off, there were 3 teams involved in that trade, so you're missing a heck of a lot of context.

Second, Josi is still one of the best Dmen in the league and Karlsson is a joke - had one good year after several bad years and is atrocious defensively.

Especially with 4 years left under contract, the return for Josi would be significantly better than this.

The Karlsson trade was an anomaly. Karlsson wanted out, and had for several years. He’s also terrible defensively, and has an absolutely insane contract.

It’s really hard to argue that Josi fits any of the above. Besides, you’re not really sending anything of value Nashville’s way in that trade — Maatta isn’t special, Chiarot’s god-awful, and Veleno isn’t the high-caliber prospect you’d hope for in that trade. While the 1st round pick might have been valuable 3-4 years ago, with the Wings on the upswing, it’s not a difference-maker.

All of this, of course, doesn’t matter. Nashville has no incentive to trade Josi, and his number’s probably going in the rafters in Bridgestone.

Sure the first but then it's atleast one of the premium prospects so ASP or Danielson or Edvinsson to start.

Erik Karlson is just a defensemen that can score and not defend. Josi is someone who can defend and score. Big difference
