Coaching and goalie among the most urgent problems

Created by: MajesticWalrus
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 2, 2023
Published: Nov. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ive been saying it for like 7 seasons now. Fire Sullivan sheesh. Jarry is too inconsistent to be a starter he should be making what Ned and Casey were making. All of them are inconsistent except the other two make a lot less amd wouldve been a better tandem because of it. 5 x 5 was outrageous at the time and will only look worse over time. Theres still time to fix this team and season.

This d core is solid so if karlsson and letang are on one line together you know youre getting good defense at least from the other lines if theyre giving it away rather than two lines of giveaways.
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Johnson, Tyler ($2,500,000 retained)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (LAK)
2.
PIT
  1. Wallstedt, Jesper
Additional Details:
They have Gustavsson and Fleury with Gustavsson most likely being the long term guy.
MIN
  1. Gauthier, Taylor
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (PIT)
3.
PIT
  1. Wolf, Dustin
Additional Details:
Their current goalie options are still only 33 or 26 so maybe Wolf moves somewhere else rather than waiting another 5 years for these two to move or retire. He'd be another good option alongside Ned.
CGY
4.
5.
PIT
  1. Hague, Nicolas
Additional Details:
With korczack looking good why not move a piece to allow him to slot in

Do Penguinb fans really think that trading scrubs, older vets making league minimum and bottom 6/playing in AHL and non-prospects who are 26-32 yrs old have value?
For example:

Taylor Gautheir, an undrafted goalie playing in ECHL with a 3.20+ GAA has value?
Magnus Hellborg, a 32 yr old goalie, with his 4th or 5th NHL team and just 24 appearances in the NHL in his Career?
Ryan Shea, a 4th round pick back in the day, now 26 yrs old, with just 5 NHL games with Penguins this yr?
Jansen Harkins twice on waivers, 26 yrs old?
Alex Nylander, 25 yrs old, professional since 2016, now in his 7th yr, any trade would be his 4th team, always leaves you disappointed?
Jordan Frasca, undrafted free agent, a stay at home, unremarkable player from the ECHL?
etc....

The entire taxi squad is a list of players who arent NHLers anymore like Andreas Johnsson, Colin White, Zohorna, etc...
You're trading Jarry, who might have value with Carter who has negative value and yet, you're getting value back?
You think CGY wants those scraps and gives you Dustin WOlf?

Yoiu're going to fix the team and save the season by trading those guys? For what?

You're throwing things with ZERO value in quantity for quality. And yet have you fixed whats wrong with this non-playoff, struggling team? Replacing your 3rd pairing defense that barely plays 12 minutes a game is the solution? Having 9-10 of your starting 12 forwards 30+ yrs old is the solution? They cant do it now, but this team should have been torn down, but the idea that your scrubs have value is crazy

Don’t believe Calgary or Minnesota would trade their top goalie prospects for Brendan Yager just as a heads up

Hawks would have zero interest in: 1.) bringing in Carter 2.) bringing in Jarry 3.) giving up a second rnd pick . Then we arrive at the value which is wwwwaaaayyyy off. This is a terrible trade proposal for the Hawks & is completely unrealistic.

This guy is making 7 in season trades, I think realism waved bye-bye a long time ago.

You forgot that he has CHI burning a retention slot on TJ, too.

I thought about if I should include that or not. I decided that retaining on him is something K.D. would consider….depending on the return.

Yeah Minnesota and Calgary's long term goalies are Wallstedt and Wolf, the only way they go is if they demand a trade

If you want a CGY goalie, Wolf is the last one to be traded. Markstrom and Vladar would be gone eons before Wolf is through trade

Way to sell the Hawks on Jarry and his declining value 5x5. No chance the Hawks make that trade. Let's list all the bad things in this trade for the Hawks:
- Trading 2nd round pick
- Receiving a declining UFA forward
- Receiving a 5x5 goalie when the system is stocked with goalies at ALL levels
- Receiving nothing of value for a rebuilding team

Good things for Hawks in this trade:
- crickets

Meh things for Hawks in this trade:
- Trading TJ retained - it probably happens, but we are going to be looking for futures, not historical monuments.

I am going to assume this whole post you put together is an attempt at humour or to troll… either that or you are completely clueless.

Just speaking to the Chicago proposal, you take the time to point out that Jarry is inconsistent, overpaid and his $5.4m per season contract for an additional four seasons after this won’t age well and yet you think you can package him with a 38 year old relic and the Hawks will gladly give you a retained Tyler Johnson and a 2nd round pick in return? This has to be a joke.

If your assessment of Jarry is accurate then other teams will want at a minimum 2 x 1st round picks to take it. Carter is a pure cap dump at this point and you will need to send a 2nd round pick with him. Tyler Johnson at 50% retained is going to cost minimum a 2nd round pick.

I would counter with this:

To Pittsburgh - TJ (50% retained)

To Chicago - Jarry, Carter, 2025 1st round pick, Brayden Yager, 2024 2nd round pick, 2026 2nd round pick.

A steep price to pay but it takes over $5m off the books for Pittsburgh for five seasons including the current year.

This is certainly a post lol

You've been saying to fire Sullivan for 7 seasons now? So you were saying to fire the coach right after he won back to back cups? Cmon man haha

Jarry is not bad i compared him to desmith and ned the only thing unwanted is his contract which is nothing to chicago when they have tons of cap space

Its his dumb line combinations and line matching and years of first round exits and one year of not making the playoffs since those 2 cup runs which were just because of how stacked the roster was

Good NHL goalies aren't worth a lot so especially not young ones. Taxi squad is made up of the pens depth so of course its not an all stars list, these options actually showcases strong depth and again bad coaching decisions. Also carter is still making a lot less than johnson and jarry has value hes like a starter b hes just making too much on a team that should be desperate for cap space and adding two way scoring forwards.

I wish I lived in a world where $25m “is nothing”, I’m sure Chicago ownership will want something of value for their money… this deal has no value for the Hawks. They easily decline.
