Description
To start off, I stayed away from players with NMCs/NTCs unless they were being traded from the Isles. In all situations they were going to a better team, so I doubt they'd turn down the trade. Here it goes:

Colorado is very unlikely to give up Devon Toews but might be more apt to do so with the emergence of Byram. They'd be up against a few cap issues going into next season. Both trades would actually help balance out their roster to be a little bit more 2-way/defensive minded and increase their depth. They also help their cap issues. It gives them a bit more space than they'd currently have for next season with fewer holes to fill in. As far as value, it may not be there but it's likely close. As far as the Clutterbuck trade, there are a few west coast teams that would likely be open to taking him on for bottom six help and a bit more toughness for a 6th or 7th round pick. It doesn't have to be Colorado, there are others that would get it done.

Boston and the Isles almost had this exact trade done in the offseason. Not much has changed, Debrusk still seems to be expendable on Boston's side, and it Boston has a few players that are versatile in their ability to play forward positions. Pageau would fit in at many of the center positions having a faceoff win percentage of 61% (better than anyone on their current roster). Plus, Pageau is a good forward. I'm not saying he would slot in up top over Zacha, but likely middle six spot and definitely the top PP center.

I'm not so sure that Kane would sign for 1 year or $5 mil, let alone with the Isles, but it's worth a shot and he'd fill in well in the 2nd line and greatly help out the powerplay. Long term, it's also slightly improved the cap situation. It's certainly better than where it is right now.

Boston declines

Boston does not need a 3C. They need another goal scoring wing. So trading a goal scoring wing - position of need - for a 3C is nonsense.

BTW - they were never close to making that trade in the offseason. It was pure speculation, no actual substance. Because Boston was never interested. Sorry.

Colorado declines. Maybe the conversation would be worthwhile if you had the other Sebastian Aho.

Debrusk isnt a scoring winger, he overproduced last season and is finally seeing regression. Hes a 20-25 goal scorer, not a number id consider a goal scoring winger.

Obviously he has underproduced to start the year and will heat up to finish above 20 goals at some point but he is not that guy. Not saying Boston should trade him for Pageau but its not very off in terms of value

No, Boston and New York never had that trade almost done. It was just a rumor thrown against the wall after speculating on comments that Lou said.

He’s averaged 25 goals per 82 during his career with a prolonged slump. For 2nd line, that is a goal scorer.

Kyle Palmieri has averaged over a 25 goal career pace and i wouldnt consider him a scoring winger, but i guess thats just semantics lol

What is the incentive for COL to trade away a top 15 dman and their 2C? To get a 2nd pairing dman, an old cap dump in Palmieri, a fringe dman, a prospect that has run out of runway and a 1st and 2nd. Tell me how this makes a team that only cares about winning the cup better, or is even fair value. CMC would laugh the Isles off the phone if that’s what they offered.

What do you consider middle 6 goal scorer? 50?

30+ you are on the top line.

In his prime, Palmieri was certainly a goal scoring winger. He's just not a scoring winger anymore

70 skaters finished the season with a 30 or higher goal pace last season. To me, thats what it takes because thats a top 6 scorer. So a 30 goal scorer on the third line imo is a strong scoring winger, but a 30 goal scorer on the 2nd line is pretty average, depending on other, unrelated factors to push them in other directions.

Thats just how i do it tho

Eh he was always close to a 30 goal pace, scoring was also way down then compared to now. I mean 2015-16 season, which was his highest gross total in goals, only 35 skaters finished at a 30 goal pace compared to 70 last season so its hard to compare.

IMO you're correct in that it isn't a value thing. It's about need. Boston in a perfect world needs a top 6 wing and a top line center. Trading JDB for Pageau costs them a top 6 wing and doesnt get them a 1c. I think the reason the rumors this Summer were BS is because they really like Zacha as a long-term 2 C with Pastrnak, so they only really need a bona fide 1c, and they can't afford to move DeBrusk really

There are 96 skaters on 1st lines in NHL. 70 does not even cover that.

Im looking purely at wingers. Centers jobs arent to score, scorers *typical* go to the wing.

This isnt a top 100 forwards in the NHL list lmao

So eliminate centers off your list of 30+ pace. How many left? Bet it is less the the 64 1st line wings in the NHL.. significantly

19 so its down to what? 51. Still on the low end.

Not entirely fair to eliminate them lmao but okay. My point clearly didnt resonate with you.

yea for one year in his prime. but my point was that he barely was when he was like 35th or whatever for wingers, Debrusk was like 52nd last season for wingers

And mine does not with you. A 25 goal scorer IS a goal scorer for 2nd or 3rd line as that is above average suspected from there. 🤷🏻‍♂️

In the 2 years prior to covid and 2 years after Debrusk 82 game average was 30 goals.

So the idea of being a non goal scorer and 1 year wonder is just plain wrong.

35th for wingers would make him a 1st line winger in terms of production that season. That's a goal scoring winger, especially when getting less than 18 minutes a night. Those guys don't grow on trees

Debrusk was 31st in the league last year in goals/60. That's a goal scoring winger

You realize there are 64 1st line wing positions in the NHL? You're making the point you're arguing against.

And add that you're ignoring the fact he only played 64 games.

wel you clearly did not read the forum because it was per 82 game basis. Not to mention he played way more minutes per 60 than dozens of guys below him lol.

Why are you arguing for Kyle Palmieri lmao my point is that i wouldnt consider him a scoring winger because he had two good seasons, also showing how using career stats is stupid.
