As a hockey fan. I am all for this. This trade would create for a very exciting week.

Fair trade. Now, I can see why each team passes on it though.

You'd have to do a lot of convincing to get Columbus to bite...Fantilli is looking like he should be a 1C for a looong time (so, need filled), and Jiricek fills a huge need at 1RD long-term given how Severson is probably best suited for a shutdown 2RD role. Zegras would be on the 2nd line in all likelihood, unless he's beating out Laine, Marchenko, Gaudreau, or longer-term Johnson potentially for a spot on the top line wing. That's just not something you give up a top RD prospect for.

And all that assumes Zegras is a top-line talent, which the jury is still out on.

Zegras for Jiricek seems more even than with Sillinger and Helleson.

you know it's a fun one when fans of both teams go "this is terrible for my team, we would never do that". regardless I think CBJ is probably the one who says no, Zegras is obviously a very talented player who is much better than this season's stats suggest, but there's such a massive premium on players exactly like Jiricek. and we all know the way that teams like to refuse to move their blue-chip prospects. this is a fun and interesting one though

Anaheim has two future star centers in Mctavish and Carlsson, Zegras goes to wing for them. They are super strong at every position besides RD and this gives them a future top 4 of Mintyukov, Zellweger, Drysdale and Jiricek-- holy crap.

Yes ik Lundeau exists but I am just not high on him like Ducks fans are, and Jiricek was my #1 ranked which is why I value him so high.

The fact that both sides are saying theyre getting destroyed in value shows me this is fair!

Jackets don’t really consider it. Jiricek is arguably the best defensive prospect in the NHL. The jackets also don’t have anything close to him as far as a RD prospect in their system. They also have Kent Johnson who is a similar type player as Zegras (not as good obviously). As a jackets fan I would consider the a carlsson for jiricek swap as fantilli/carlsson center group would be deadly for the next decade but the ducks would never consider that

To clarify, it is a really fun idea, and the value is pretty close to fair one-for-one (though I still think Anaheim would need to add), but CBJ team needs makes this is a nonstarter. The overwhelming CBJ consensus seems to be more "this doesn't fit our needs" than "we're getting destroyed in value".

Agree. Value seems pretty much what you'd expect. The Jackets trading their future 1RD for Zegras who either gets pushed to wing or 2C by Fantilli doesn't make much sense though.

Trading a proven 60 point player who’s only 22 for a prospect RHD isn’t a smart move for Anaheim.

Especially this year, they’re really showing signs of life and trade trade a young superstar in Zegras for futures just isn’t the right idea.

You’re right the value may be there, but the Ducks absolutely shouldn’t do this.

If Jiricek was already 21-22 and was already a proven top RHD I’d say sure; but there’s still a lot to be seen with him.

Same thing can be said about Jiricek, but the Jury hasn't even gotten to review the case yet on Jiricek.

It's an interesting idea, but I don't think it's the right one.

For starters, what I know about Jiricek is he's more offensively minded, not unlike Mintyukov, so as a partner for him, not ideal.

Then there's the issue that Columbus already has Fantilli and KJ, do they need Zegras?

While the straight up value is probably fair in Zegras for Jiricek, I'm not sure it's as good a match for either team. Trading Zegras for Noah Dobson or Moritz Seider is probably better for both teams, as the Wings are 500 and Isles are floundering right now. It's a RHD heavy draft at the top this year, so those teams could conceivably replace their RHD and acquire Z.

Totally agreed. Based on potential and need though, I'd just rather keep the guy who should be a 1RD/top-10 D-man over the guy who should be a 1C/top-30 forward. Both are a ways away from reaching that potential, and obviously Jiricek has farther to go to reach it at this moment.
