Idk, man. CHI probably accepts, but I doubt Zaitsev fixes any problems for EDM. He is having a decent season playing sparingly next to Kaiser, but he is still the same Zaitsev that OTT desperately dumped on us last year. By all accounts he is well liked by teammates and a great locker room presence, though.

My guess is the OP is dumping Ceci more than acquiring Zaitsev in this deal. I think the Hawks accept especially with their lack of depth on the right side. I highly doubt Edmonton would make this trade though.

Correct. Dumps salary for next season with ceci off the books but it’s also to change up the d core for edm without spendings 1sts and top prospects. They can’t keep the same roster and expect to make a playoff push

Yeah. Maybe it's someone looking at stat lines that isn't actually familiar with the players. But, maybe Zaitsev could actually help a contender if kept in a sheltered role.

Oh. I see. So, punting on the current season? I'm not sure EDM is there yet. But, they could be there pretty soon.

With Detroit playing fairly well I'd be surprised but maybe. Reimer or Maatta or Kostin sure but maybe not Sprong at this point he's been pretty effective.

This is a whole bunch of 'no' for me due to your changes on D.

I'll start by stating that dumping Ceci shouldn't cost a 2nd & also shouldn't be an aim. Even if I assume that's what it would cost, that cost would be reduced by taking on Zaitsev at 2.25mil for this year. The only reason to be moving him is for an upgrade or for a change in style. With your trades, I'd say you failed to upgrade as you made the D corps (arguably) worse, older, less L-R balanced & failed to address the key issues with Ceci (meaning there's no also no stylistic change): skating & puck moving ability. Both Maatta and Zaitsev are also below average skaters and ineffective puckmovers.

And, to finalise my point, I don't see the changes/upgrades at F being worth what you've done to the D corps & asset pool.

Other then Zaitsev these are all guys that would help the Oilers and would be more effective then a lot of the depth they have, they were all available and easy to acquire but Holland of course went the wrong direction.

Just think if they do something soon season might be done . Can’t afford to not make the playoffs while mcdavid and Leon are still there

Sure but I don’t think sprong will be back anyways with the likes of Soderblom,Berggren, danielson, kasper, mazur coming up in a year or 2. I’d have zero problem moving him as a wings fan. We’re playing good but we won’t win anything and he’s not a longterm wing

No I wouldn't be opposed to moving sprong but nothing in that deal gets me excited. I hope they plan on moving some of the kids up but they don't seem to think it's much of a priority right now.

I’d move sprong right now for a 2nd or at the deadline if a team comes asking . The other players neeeded to be involved to make the salary work and I’m still intrigued with broberg even though our left d side is the best in our depth pool . Would just have been another piece to deal at a later point between wallinder buium etc... if he turned his game around but don’t see us trading for him in real life anyways

Ya unfortunately it doesn’t seem we care about the prospects which bug me cause we’ll need them when we’re contending again and sooner they get nhl experience the better . Berggren and edvinsson 100% should be up for good imo
