You make it sound like they want out of that Sieg contract. Perhaps they want to move on from it to make room on the roster, but that contract has a lot of value.

I like the idea of moving Markstrom but you gotta respect his value is low, especially unretained.

"getting out of" Siegenthaler's contract is a wild statement. He is a really good player who is actually underpaid.

In terms of win now there’s not many better uses of 3.4 million than on your top pairing LD top Pk guy, especially when it’s 25 with term. Imagine how nice that contract could look when he’s in his prime at 28-29, the cap is at like 95 mill, and he’s still making 3.4

Haha ok obviously NJ fans value Sieg. Fair enough. But “one of the best defensive Dmen in the league” might be a stretch. A big stretch. Was more trying to make the cap hits work. Maybe Haula is included then instead. But you still have to admit Hanifin would be a big upgrade to your D and Marky a big upgrade in net. To get those types of pieces there needs to be big value coming back.

I'd be more concerned about Jersey cap next season. Seigs and Vanecek costs 6.8m combined....Markstrom and the propsed Hanifan cost 13.5m combined. Is Markstrom even an improvement? And the Devils add futures.

Hanifin would be great..but would be replacing Bahl/Smith. Siegenthaler is a top-4 dman here…and has been one of the best defensive dmen over the last couple of years.

Hanifin at 1st+prospect or 1st+3rd probably works better for NJD.

Markstrom at 6 million dollars for a 0.901 and being 23rd in GSAx is not something I'm paying for.

We like hanifin and we can more than easily fit him in. Not going higher than the rental market tho.

I love this site. Everyone thinks their players are all Gretzky. Haula is not a great player and is overpaid for what he does. Those contracts cost you to get rid of. Markstrom was a vezina finalist recently. None of NJ goalies are doing well and are never going to reach that level.

The NJD GM decided he was worth 3.1 mill this offseason. He's then been even better this year. He also has a full NTC. He absolutely has +ve value, and we will not be paying to dump a valuable 3C and PK guy who can play anywhere in the lineup.

Find me a better UFA C under 3.5 million... Only one out there is Staal and he also took a discount to stay in Carolina

hanifin at 8m is HORRIBLE. So by your logic is to waste 14m on two players... meaning we can resign players.. God that terrible is TERRIBLE. There are goalies are there who are cheaper and better.
