He can play on the right just as well as on the left. And this offseason ya'll probably will probably replace some of your D given that it hasn't really worked out at all defensively for this team. Harris would be an upgrade on at least half of the red-wings defensman.

It would take a 1st for MTL to move him. He is a Habs fans but without hockey knowledge. This offseason is extremely unrealistic

Walman-Seider
Chiarot-Petry
Maata-Holl

There’s Edvinsson better than everyone outside the top 2 waiting … they really don’t have to trade Berggren for Harris

He isn't bringing back a 3rd from a rebuilding Hawks team. We can find a D to sign as a Free Agent if we need one.

Savard only commited for one year with salary retention would not cost anything to move lol what. The only deal with him was the fact that he was overpaid, with salary retention and his experience and pedigree many gms would take him. Savard in a sheltered role can still be a positive on an NHL team. Of the defensman you have in the lineup you posted, Harris is at worst the 4th best defensman on this team. He's easily better than Maata, Holl and Petry and has more upside.

I don't think the hawks will be able to sign everyone they pick. Better get some depth to not have a situation like a couple days ago. Anyway the team he's going to or the return isn't really relevant. Just get him somewhere.

Doesn’t make sense for a rebuilding team sitting in last place to trade draft picks for a 33 year old 4/5 d-man. The Hawks have more then enough cap space to chase whatever d-man they want this coming summer.

They traded picks and prospects for Hall, Foligno, Perry and Beauvillier just this offseason and start of season...

Expect more of that line of thinking after Button went on a MTL podcast and said he could easily see Savard getting a 1st in a trade return. Gonna be a long rest of the year, buckle up

Doesn’t make sense for Detroit to trade a position they lack in (young scoring wingers) for their strongest prospect position.

Omg you don’t get it, MTL would listen to offer if a 1st round pick is offered for his services without salary retained. MTL are in no position to trade David, he’s a great mentor, plays against other teams top line every night and does well. MTL only have true top 4 RHD and it’s David.

Who cares if Harris is better than Maata Holl & Petry ? They signed Holl, they wanted him, they resigned Maata, they want him, they traded for Petry, following ? Harris doesn’t have huge upside, he’s a 5’11 dman who does everything well but doesn’t bring anything special. There’s a dozen of dman like him in the NHL

Oh I misunderstood. Savard is gone sooner rather than later though. Before next season for sure. Too many young defensman need a spot. Savard is not part of this team's future. There will be no reason to keep him.

Matheson-Savard
Guhle-Barron
Harris-Kovacevic
Xhekaj

Hutson-Reinbacher
Struble-Mailloux
Trudeau-Engstrom

You never have a spot, you need to earn it. Lane Hutson doesn’t have a spot next year, he could force their hands, sure. Let’s say he does, then Harris becomes the 7th dman, Hutson plays with Kovacevic & Xhekaj (who is waivers exempt) replace Hutson in Laval.

Don't think a Berggren Harris swap works well for Detroit. Might have to find another team. We currently have 4 NHL LHD and more knocking on the door.

Hall & Foligno - Hawks traded 2 prospects that were not in their future plans. They were the equivalent of trading a 5th round pick or less.
Perry - Hawks traded a 7th round pick
Beauvillier - 5th round pick

That is like me rummaging around in my junk drawer and trading you 4 paper clips, half used bottle of glue, and bic pen.

With the exception of Walman and Seider the rest of those players are basically place holders. Most of them were added as UFAs to fill roster spots. One the left side Detroit has Edvinsson, Johansson and Wallinder. Now I wouldn't put Harris above Edvinsson or Wallinder and maybe even with Johansson so the need really isn't there. Especially at the cost of Berggren.

Edvinsson is better than everyone except Seider but Walman has really good chemistry Seider so why mess that. Ghost has been a lot better than expected but I'm not sure Yzerman will give him the the money and term he will want. Plus he could bring in a good return as well. Petry will finish out his contract in his home town and probably retire. Holl we are probably stuck with but Detroit's best RHD prospect ASP won't be ready a for a couple of seasons. So having Petry and Holl not ideal but it will work.

Okay so, long term right-side, we have Seider and Pellikka.
Long term left-side, we have Edvinsson, Walman, Johansson, and probably (eventually Wallinder).

Trading Berggren for a 3RD playing on his offhand is just an awful trade.

They traded picks and prospects for Hall, Foligno, Perry and Beauvillier just this offseason and start of season...

Well first off they traded for Hall, Foligno and Perry at the draft last summer not 30 games into the season when they are sitting dead last in the league. They also brought in those guys for the purposes of being mentors to the young guys this season and to help them get to the cap floor.

Secondly, as part of the Hall/Foligno deal they traded two defensemen who had been given opportunities in Chicago and never grab a hold of the positions and ended up being surpassed by numerous other young d-men in the system. They had become expendable for the Hawks given the emergence of Vlasic, Korchinski, Phillips, etc.

For Perry they gave up a 7th round pick… that’s it, not a 3rd and 7th. On top of that Perry’s contract had expired the Hawks weren’t doing Tampa a favour by taking cap off their books like they would be doing for Montreal in this proposal.

As for Beauvillier, his acquisition was necessitated due to the injuries to Hall and Athanasiou as well as the Perry incident. They also only gave up a 5th round pick not a 3rd and 7th.
