But according to Leafsfan98 Bert is better than both Newhook and Dach, why on earth would you want to trade him if he is that good!!!

It's a proper reaction. The Leafs defense has always been a house of cards. It just blew up tonight.

There are better options than Gudas. Guys who can actually handle playing in Toronto.

He can play against his former team in the playoffs in round 1. He seems like a competitive guy who would like that.

He's a unique defenceman, with a crazy side to him. That's what the Leafs need, not mild-mannered Brodie and gentlemanly Liljegren.

Nothing like panicking based on a bad game or two; terrible game but it’s bound to happen in an 82 game season. We all know D needs to be addressed but there is lots of time and Gudas is not the answer - he’s no good + he chose the beach and irrelevance. Better options available

Been saying since start of year Samsonov is garbage and so is Bertuzzi.
But the genius staff of TML gave Bert a NMC so he aint going no where but hope fully LTIR!
If TML do not trade Samsonov and get a t least 2 physical defense there is no hope for playoffs this year.
16 goals against in 2 games with absolutely zero effort by anyone on the team is not something to take lightly.
Shanahan and Keefe have to be fired ASAP!
These are not the players we need.

One of the only players actually hustling out there

Leafs don't need hustlers in the top six, they need finishers as well as guys who play on the edge. Bertuzzi is neither. No shot, no jam. He's just a guy who makes nifty passes. For 5.5 million you expect more.

Why would Red Wings do this? If they are gonna sell Kane it's going to be at the TDL (with red wings projected not to make the playoffs) and it's going to be to help this team's future. Trading for another rental makes zero sense for the Red Wings. Give us picks and prospects then sure.

How is Bertuzzi worth 5.5 M when every player who makes less then him and plays less minutes have more points?
    Please explain?

Minus Vegas and Colorado and STL and Washington and Pittsburgh...

And Bert extends plays and goes to the dirty areas

So Bertuzzi is basically a higher paid Armia is what you are saying!

Vegas, Colorado and the Blues had bruisers who can fill the net in their top six, guys like Barbashev, Nichushkin, Schenn, and even guys like Tarasenko and Stone play mean with a nasty pair of hands, capable of scoring from wristers. Bertuzzi is none of that. He scores from dirty rebounds.

"Extending the play" isn't good enough. He has to throw hits and play mean. But that's not his game. And what he's bringing to the team isn't worth his contract.

IMO, Bertuzzi is basically Armia with a higher cap hit. Both are big, great puck possession guys who extend plays, go to the dirty areas and occasionally put up points but not much more. I would be p***ed if the Habs gave Armia a 5.5 mil deal with a full NMC

Then you've clearly not watched Bert play or you don't understand what he does...

And you don't know what extending the play means either...

"Extending the play" on this soft team means neutral zone poke checks and having a good stick. On serious teams it means having good forecheckers, hard hitting forwards, smart and physical defencemen.
