Description
Reviewed trade deadlines for the past few seasons and these seem to align with the acquisition cost.

1. Kuzmenko to CHI: supposed that VAN got its 2nd back in the deal. Obviously CHI is hurting for offense - 6 goals in the last 6 games (4 of those in a single game). Send Kuzmenko to CHI to help them be respectable on the scoreboard. Also has value in his contract is only through 24-25 when he becomes a UFA. CHI can build him back up and use him as trade leverage next season (or extend if he finds new chemistry with a player like Bedard or a likely top 3 pick in this summer's draft.)

2. Basically creating the equivalent of the Hronek deal. VAN sends a 1st and 2nd to BUF and gets a player on a RFA deal that expires after the 24-25 season. Mittlestadt fills a 2C option for VAN, or can rotate to the wing in the event that Tocchet wants to split up the Lotto line.

3. Reacquiring Tanev with a deal that is structured similarly to the Chiarot acquisition by FLA in 22 - a B prospect, a 1st and I've upped the ante to a 3rd (instead of a 4th).

Overall this doesn't fully address the "needs a scoring winger" option, unless you operate on the presumption that Mittlestadt can shift to the wing when the Lotto Line is not loaded up. Does help shore up the PK with the acquisition of Tanev and give flexibility to pair Hughes with Hronek when looking for offense, or for Hughes-Tanev if you want to split up your puck movers. Team still has admirable depth on D, allowing for Cole to shift in and out with Zadorov (or Soucy if he can't stay healthy - knock on wood).

Ok but Detroit wanted to move on from Hronek, the Sabres probably want to keep Mittelstadt. That's the catch 22. The amount it would take for the Sabres to consider moving him is probably not worth it for the Canucks.

You lost me at Kuzmenko to Chicago for a 2nd. Hawks decline and it's unanimous from EVERY Hawks fan on here.

There is zero chance CHI pays a 2nd for him. If you can convince a contender into thinking a change of scenery might help and offer to retain half his salary, you might be able to squeeze out a 2nd round pick. But not a rebuilding team like CHI. If CHI is going to take on the contract of a guy that has no chance of being part of CHI's future, they are going to need an opportunity to make a profit. And there is almost zero chance CHI could get more than a 2nd for him at the deadline next year.

It's just a rumour, and it's clear that Canucks are not going to do another deal with the Hawks.
Kuzmenko to Chicago doesn't make sense for both sides.
In my opinion, Chicago might acquire a veteran player who can help Bedard in the next 2-3 years or so.

Mittelstadt for a good young defensive right d- makes sense. Mittelstadt for futures- makes no sense at all. Sabres would not even consider this.

yeahnot happening from a Chicago pov. Zero reason to pay that price for a few goals in a time of tanking anyways. Also I get Kuz has a lot of skill but the incentive to VAN to offload his salary is definitely higher than the hawks incentive to score a few more goals
