Flames aren't trading Andersson for 2 bottom pairing Dmen, one of which we had already and traded for nothing and a 1st

So you've paid for Columbus to eat Campbell's deal.....MAYBE a bit more. But how are you getting Laine with retention AND Ceulemans, who they've got no incentive to move?

You can't possibly think that Calgary "offer" gets off the ground.

Ceci is a top pairing Dman on better teams than what the Flames have had over the past 3 seasons, but okay.

Kulak will be better than the leftover LHD on that roster after Hainfin is sold off.

These players are not pending UFA’s and can easily be traded if they aren’t good enough for that team.

Muh huh. Like the notion that Ceci can be a top pairing D? Coz nobody on Earth knows that.

They would move the offensively oriented Ceulemans for more well-rounded, but offensively gifted Akey (the kid is a sublime skater and has a rocket shot, should have been a much higher pick). Ceulemans seems to be struggling, so this trade adds more value to the deal for CBJ and brings CC home.

Laine has extremely underperformed expectations, and Campbell’s (seriously) incredible personality will replace the distracting Elvis to help the young CBJ tenders along. Change of scenery therapy for everyone.

Campbell needs to move to a place with less pressure and should be pretty good.

Laine retained prevents a potential total $8.7 million write-off…

Pardon. I meant can be a top pairing D for them, not EDM. You've got a lot of spin, dude, but I'm really struggling to understand how you can believe it. This is a terrible offer out of context, and the fact that it's Calgary just makes it the purest of fantasies. You have to know that.

Washington won't want an assortment of random picks/prospects for Dowd. They'll likely not move him for anything less than a 2nd.

That is an extreme over pay for a 4th line Center, despite the additional year. I don’t agree with that valuation at all.

Few things here:
- despite playing a "4th line" role Dowd is playing much closer to low 2nd-3rd line minutes averaging almost 16 minutes a game, he can easily fit into a defensive 3rd line role.
- He's one of the best defensive forwards in the league in models such as A&R, and has consistently helped shut down top lines, something pretty much no other line can do for Washington.
- He has an extremely low cap hit plus the extra year on his contract, making him valuable over the next two years.
- Lars Eller returned a 2nd round pick while in a down year, and not only is Dowd better defensively, he's got the extra year and is outscoring Eller from last year on an offensively inept team.

Bottom line, if a team wants Dowd they're going to have to pay up, and Washington is going to be looking for at least a 2nd.

You could right, he appears to be elite as a bottom 6 shut-down defender, and a RHC to boot, but typically offensive players are worth 1st & 2nd rounders and the defensive types are 3rd rounders or lower.

The market will dictate.

Is Dowd even available?

Laine sucks and is often (and currently) injured. Why would you give up so much for him?

To clear at least some cap space this season and minimize the impact on it next season.

I’d like to see what it would be like to have an Ovechkinesque shooter on this team and to see what impact this leadership group might have on him.

It’s not that he sucks, it’s that his attitude/effort level sucks.

You're both just wrong. He's a great player who has injury issues. His attitude and effort have been phenomenal. The guy can't help the fact that he has had a couple bouts of covid and some ****ty injury luck.

He's terrible defensively (both in effort and ability) which makes him a net negative at 5v5.

Not somebody we should be giving up significant assets for.

Go actually look at his advanced stats over the last 3 years. He's not terrible defensively. That's the kinda thing that people who haven't paid any attention to the development in his game since he joined the Jackets say. He's not given nearly the level of credit he deserves for his defensive effort and willingness to adapt his game and become a more well rounded player.

You guys always had 6 Giordanos! Especially during his Norris seasons.

That's a terrible trade for the Flames. I'm sure that if Andersson is on the market he's going to get a haul. Especially when you consider the cap-hit and term.

Look, Foegele has outscored him in the past 1.5 seasons (5v5). He's just not worth giving up a whole bunch of assets for. And his effort levels defensively aren't great.

Just looked up his latest scouting report from CF:

Elite shooter. Ability to beat NHL goalies from range. Needs to utilize his stature and reach as more of a weapon in high danger areas in the offensive zone.
When he isn't moving his feet / working to empty the tank / he becomes a stationary liability defensively.
Easily defined overall. Capable of scoring north of 30 goals.

This isn't news.
