Chychrun is better than Girard, and cheaper, why would Ottawa retain? Tank is worth a 1st on his own so it's essentially Chychrun with 1.6mil retained for Girard. Bad deal for Ottawa

There are very few situations where moving Chychrun makes sense for Ottawa, and getting a different LHD is very firmly not one of them.

Less about what they add, and more about completely restructuring the deal. Girard just is not a piece Ottawa needs. Why trade Chychrun for Girard when they could just keep Chychrun to fill the same role?

Chychrun expressed that he has no intention of staying in OTT longterm, so OTT is trying to get value for him while they can. Friedman has consistently reported that, on top of the assets that Chychrun could fetch, OTT would be looking to replace him with a D that can play both sides. According to recent reports, barring an adjustment to the value, this trade makes moderate sense. It should be noted that there will almost certainly be no retention on Chychrun though.

Can you provide links to Freidman comments that state Chychrun wanted out? You seem to imply you're just repeating what he said, so should be pretty easy to cite your sources.

no he didn’t lmao. Friedman absolutely did not say “Chychrun has expressed that he has no interest in signing with Ottawa long term”. drop the links if you actually insist he said that

That is never happening the trade that is posted is very fair, you might not like it but Girard for Chychrun is very close, and Tarasenko as a rental is worth more than a 1st, it’s stupid to think COL is adding a 1st and a prospect that is straight up killing it.

Yeah that Chychrun rumor was completely unfounded. He literally came out and outright denied it all in an article with Ian Mendes. Here's the quote from when he was asked about the rumours of him being unhappy in Ottawa:

“It’s people shooting blind darts at a board and hoping they hit,” Chychrun said. “People have a right to say what they want, but to act like they have their sources is a joke. And people like to get their clicks on social media. If they have to use my name to do it, go ahead. But I’m not going to let it affect me.”

“I feel at home here. I bought a house and it’s five minutes from my sister and 10 minutes from my grandpa,” said Chychrun. “It’s been a cool opportunity. It’s special coming home and this is a second home to me. I’ve just been cherishing my time here because not everybody gets that opportunity to play in front of family and loved ones.”

As far as I can tell, that whole "he doesn't want to be here" thing was a straight out lie from the dumbest guy on Sens Twitter.

Also I'm pretty sure the Chychrun rumors aren't coming from the Ottawa side to begin with. Staios spoke about being irritated seeing his name out there, and how he hated that stuff as a player. Also I don't have the direct quote from him, but he essentially said " yeah if I was another GM I'd want Chychrun too".

Not saying Chychrun isn't available, but the rumor of him being unhappy is outright untrue, and it seems most likely that all the Chychrun rumors are coming from teams outside of Ottawa who want him.

That said I think there's a decent shot he is the guy moved (though ideally it'd be Chabot). But it won't be for another LD, that doesn't solve the problem anyway.

I've heard at least some of what Friedman has said on Chychrun, and it wasn't anything remotely close to "Chychrun expressed that he has no intention of staying in OTT longterm". If anything it was Ottawa not being sure they want to pay big money to 3 left shot D. So you probably do need to cite a source to that.

i agree. we should restructure this trade for players the Avs need. Tarasenko & Chychrun aren't what the Avs need.
