Provorov Arvidsson

Created by: tkecanuck341
Team: 2024-25 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 15, 2024
Published: Feb. 15, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kings can't acquire Provorov until June 6, which would be 12 months after the trade in which they retained salary in the Petersen dump. Columbus would retain 50% of the remaining cap hit, essentially making Provorov's cap hit be a net addition of only $2.3625M. Trade return is negotiable, but this seems reasonable considering it's only for one season.

Viktor Arvidsson signed to the "Connor Brown contract" since he missed over 100 days on IR this season. $775k in salary this season, with $1M games played bonuses at 10, 20, 30, 40 games each. Total compensation of $4.775M.

Bonus overage included here for Talbot's $1M GP bonus and 2x schedule A bonuses for Byfield at $212.5k each (he might get more or less).

Remaining cap space can be used to add a bit to extensions or to add extra players to the roster.

This is pretty creative I can't think of a team acquiring a contract that they were already retaining on without playing a game with the team.

Kaliyev and Spence would most likely be good enough for provarov alone I'd say

Jackets pass. I think if we shopped Provorov in the offseason or TDL with retention this offer would be beat. Granted i dont know much about the prospects, but i think our FO would rather a 1st than take on 3 players.

As I said in the description, the return is negotiable. Had to come up with something to get the idea out there.

Just curious can a team trade a player back to the original team that retained salary? Regardless of retaining extra salary or not?

ah sorry i missed that. I think some team would give a 1st for him, especially if its during the offseason and worst case they can recoup assets at the TDL if it didnt work out.

Yes, but not for 12 months after the original trade where the retention happened.

CBA 50.5 (e)(C)(3)

That's what everyone said this summer about Talbot and he ended up as an All Star. Rittich's has likewise been fantastic so far this season.

Every team has the occasional stinker. That was not Rittich's fault. The entire team forgot to show up that night.

Very impressive…good work. Like the trade. Was gonna ask you, what do you think Kings need to do? Defensive help? Another scorer? Are they happy w Q at LW or do they want to get him at C? Anyway, good trade man.

Short term or long term?

This season, I think Arvidsson was their main "trade deadline acquisition." Bringing him back doesn't leave much room to do anything else.

I wouldn't mind the Kings potentially bringing in another goaltender. I'm not talking about a big name guy like Markstrom, Gibson, or Saros, but a short term, inexpensive 1B guy like Charlie Lindgren or Kevin Lankinen. Talbot did really well to start the season, but with Copley not playing well, the Kings rode him too hard and burned him out. After an exceptional start to the season which earned him a trip to the All Star game and had him as a Vezina front runner, his play has taken a nosedive. He has lost his last 10 starts in a row. Rittich has since taken over as the starter, and Talbot hasn't gotten a start since the All Star break. If the Kings aren't confident enough to split the load with Talbot so they don't also burn out Rittich, then they need to waive Talbot and bring in a replacement that they are willing to rotate with Rittich. That's all I think the Kings can really do this season.

Longer term, the Kings main needs are a puck-moving LHD, a long-term starting goaltender, and some grit (preferably that can also produce offensively, not a goon).

As for Byfield, I think the long-term plan is to move him to center, but that's currently on hold right now with them trying to get Dubois to emerge. He's been noticeably better over the last 3 games, but he needs to keep it up for an extended streak. For now, I think the Kings will keep him on Byfield's wing. Eventually (not this season, maybe not even next season), they may do what they did with Richards and Carter and have them switch off, with Byfield taking over for center and Kopitar moving to the left. Once Kopitar retires, the 1C position belongs to Byfield.

I know you guys have Arvy back, I say something about Vatrano being a scoring option. I don’t think Ducks would make that trade w Kings for obvious reasons, but was curious if Kings were considering another scorer. You pretty much answered it for me. Thanks man. Good luck today.
