Description
Brodie (May or May Not Have CBJ on 10 Team List) But if so...Agrees to the trade based on being swapped to another contender but needs to go to CBJ for them to retain half on him and get assists to whoever he is getting traded to... CBJ gets a 2nd from Brodie?

I just like the Kampf/Kuraly swap for a little more grit.. Less term going forward for Toronto with Kuraly which is nice.. Kampf being younger and locked up longer kinda bodes better for CBJ's bottom 6.

Something like this would slap... I think CBJ would be getting enough value back in a deal like this no?

Jackets have their own better, younger KHL goalie prospect so Akhtiamov isn't appealing.

Brodie and Kampf do nothing for their lineup so not appleaing.

Robertson, Timmins, and Tverberg would be forever stuck in the AHL so not appealing.

The only interesting piece is the first and it's a late one in a shallow draft so not appealing when it's Boone going the other way.

Cowan, Minten, Knies, and 1sts are all that Toronto has that could make a Boone trade work. Even Cowan and Minten aren't particularly interesting prospects.

And even Knies isn't really compelling enough for Columbus. They are stacked with prospects at W. If Columbus are getting prospects, particularly for Jenner, it needs to be their future 2C, in my opinion. Jenner's value to the Blue Jackets is so high that other teams will not want to pay the asking price. And if so, Columbus will just keep him.

Why would Brodie and Kampf not have Columbus on their waive list? Waiving to go to a bottom feeder isn't likely.

I also, why do Leaf fans think two pending FA who are older, slower and cap killers going to get younger better players, who have term and better deals?

Sorry Brodie and Kampf are not what other teams are wanting on Friday to give up younger cheaper and better futures.

Well I can tell you the jackets have zero interest in them as well. Could maybe see the jackets taking Brodie for free if they could half retain on him and flip him but that’s about it

This is the only part I even disagree with slightly, the rest was spot-on.

It's not crazy talk, you have to give something significant to get something significant. Why would you expect Columbus, a team severely lacking high-end talent and with an excess of depth, to trade their All-Star captain (yes, by default, but it's not like he didn't deserve to be there) and current 1C who the organization has explicitly stated they aren't moving despite a ton of interest...for a nothing-burger proposal. Like, you didn't even include a top-3 prospect for one of the league's weakest pools.

Cowan is a great prospect, but he's not a sure thing. Minten tops out as a middle-6 C Jenner-type if he's lucky. Neither is enough alone and they're not all that interesting for a team that may have them as the 4th-best centers on the roster in a few years depending on how Voronkov, Sillinger, and Fantilli continue to develop. Given our lack of leadership and general youth, it would be a disaster to trade literally the entire leadership core (aside from Werenski/Gaudreau) for a smattering of UFAs, cap dumps, B-level prospects, and a late first.

Ya'll didn't even read the part where I said Brodie would only go to be able to be retained and flipped to a contender in another deal. And Kampf isn't an expiring FA.. Him and Kuraly are both 4C type guys.. Except Kampf is younger and has 2 more years of term on his deal. Kuraly just being a more bite guy would be ideal and more beneficial to the Leafs being a shorter term deal.. For CBJ getting a solid bottom 6 reliable C for the next few years of a rebuild... Both guys cancel each other out in the deal essentially.

What Columbus would be able to do with Brodie in subsequent deal is inconsequential to this deal. He's a negative asset fully when the team he's going to is Columbus. They don't want him, don't need him, and they'd have to do work in order to move him.

Kampf is another one who is a full negative going to Columbus. His contract lasts through 2026-27. In that time the Jackets have to pay Fantilli, Jiricek, Johnson, Sillinger, Chinakhov, Marchenko, Voronkov, and potentially work out a new deal with Laine. Paying a 4C $2.4M through all that is non-sense.

The biggest issue with your proposal though is the big pile of nothing that you think is worth Boone Jenner. The team is already adamant that they are not going to trade him so you have to overcome that as well as compensate the Jackets for losing their best leader who is on an incredible contract for what he provides. A bunch of d+4 or older players who can't stick in the NHL and a late 1st in a weak draft doesn't come close to enough for a team who has the quality of young players already that Columbus has.

So if those two cancel out, you have the Jackets giving up their 1C and a top-4 DFD for a pending UFA they don't need in Brodie, a middle-6 winger with a long injury history, a pair of lottery ticket prospects, and a 7th D in addition the 1st. There's really nothing enticing there beyond the 1st - it's long been said that Columbus needs an overpay to move Jenner and that's not here.
