I'd rather collect future 1sts. Re-tooling with this core is almost guaranteed to fail. Half these teams will be lottery teams unexpectedly in the future and their picks will be more valuable than the GM ever expected- if that GM is even still there.

These guys are much more proven than a late first rounder, some being nhl ready next year. Makes no sense to take a chance on a pick when you can have much more proven first round talent

Because GMs are not likely to give up a top prospect for a rental and the best value will come in the form of sacrificing in the short term.

no chance in hell the Canucks include any of those in a deal for Guentzel. Lek and Wil are "untouchable" and trading Hoglander leaves a glaring hole in our Top 6.

Basic logic. 25% of the playoff teams change over year to year in the cap era. Fans ALWAYS think their team will stay competitive longer than they really do. See the Penguins for a prime example.

Can I interest you in an injury-riddled Chaz Lucius? He has one good shoulder, no good knees, and 59 points in 67 total games played since he was drafted in 2021. He's out for the season but will probably be back for the next. Doesn't he sound great?
