It’ll be interesting the coming years as to where bad contracts go.

So many teams have benefited from the coyotes historic strategies with cap dumps, injured players. Now, that pressure relief is gone.

It’ll also be so wildly unique for the trade scenarios. The franchise has an absurd amount of futures and cap space.

This new team, with all its futures, has the chance to be a true contender its first year and for the medium and long term.

Some things that could be cool:

What happens if somebody like draisaitl or marner is traded to the new Utah team. (I think both resign where they are) They’d have so many assets to send back along with quality nhlers. The trade possibilities are wild. They can afford anything they want, can make offers that can’t be refused.

Some gm is going to hit the jackpot.

I put it over in its place cause it’s long and most people don’t prefer that - but if somebody does like them, here’s a Blues post mortem and prediction thread:

Tidbit I learned last night in an otherwise dreadful sequence of events: Parayko currently leads all Dmen in both takeaways and blocks. If he holds those positions, it will be the first time since they started counting (back in the 90s? Late 80s? I dunno) that one guy led the league in both categories.

Get this man a real partner. No offense to Leddy, who has been shockingly solid this season, but he can be shockingly solid on the 2nd pairing. That works better. Find the new J-Bo. This is job 1B, with 1A being get a real coach.

I think it would be hard to distrust a new ownership group that just paid a boatload of cash to move the team to Utah, I’d probably be excited to finally get all the AZ drama out

Yea and also not have to play in a 5000 seat arena anymore

Have new fans excited about the new shiny team they get to watch

Per Andy Strickland (Saint-Louis beat reporter), Coyotes players are over the moon about their days at Mullet coming to an end

Coincidentally, just as the season comes to an end, he's back on the ice practising. Totally not cap circumvention.

Of course, I'm talking about Matt Murray. :P

-------------------------
I feel for Coyotes fans, but the team was a disaster for several years until Bill Armstrong, and the current ownership sounds like a joke. Armstrong did a much better job building up assets than Francis has done with Seattle IMO.

As far as Salt Lake City goes, I don't get the hate. I think of taffy and skiing when I hear SLC, although I've never been. Seems like a potentially decent hockey market for a team with a good young core.

U do know hip surgery takes almost a year to heal right?

If anything its a surprise he's even ready but he's the number 4 for us and unlike Stone we werent gonna heavily rely on him

LTIR conditioning assignment to the Marlies with 3 or so games left in the regular season is a hell of a coincidence. They essentially got out of the last year of his contract & used that LTIR to bring in Samsonov in the offseason.

On a more serious note, Jensen is being taken off on a stretcher right now. Didn't see the play

red wings should've pulled reimer when they were up 4-1, they only have themselves to blame

There are several types of hip surgery; probably should specify which one each player had before going down this road as each have different rehab/conditioning expectations and/or return to play expectations.

Pens were the only team in the East race to drop both points last night, just made their lives a lot harder, NYI still looking like they’ll get 3rd in the Metro but now it’s Detroit or Washington who looks like they’ll get WC2 with Philly and Pittsburgh in spoiler roles

Detroit's last 2 games are against Montreal, so it looks like they'll make it.

Nice to see Luke Tuch is a loyal guy. He's going to sign his ELC with Montreal.
