Marner would need to have an 8 year extension at his similar cap for NJD to ever potentially consider this. Even then.

That's an easy thing to do on July 1. Treliving will have to start reworking this roster. Punting another year is not good enough.

We have enough cap space to rebuild our D in the offseason BUT we would be downgrading at F a bit.

I agree that a lot of the money should be allocated to the defense. As we've seen with McMann, it's not hard to get cheap young wingers. But good defencemen cost money. Leafs can't afford to cheap out and try to get by with the Timmins, Benoits, and Liljegrens of the world. They need to add three or four legitimate top 4 defencemen.

In Ottawa he will personally go to Parliament and hand over his taxes in person.

I would absolutely love Marner on the Devils, but that price ain’t it for even 8 years of him, with how well that Bratt contract is going to age and still some cost control on Nemec. It does more harm for NJ long term than good

Sens pass, they can get better futures for Chychrun.

I like Tavares, good player. Nothing against him.

We’re not giving up any 1sts or 2nds.

Nothing in for the Sens and even less for the Devils.
No appreciation of Tavares NMC and probably Marner's too

Sens don't do this unless Tavares agrees to an extension. He'll play behind Stutzle and Pinto, possibly on a line with Giroux. Sens management said they they want to bring in good pros.

As for the Devils, pairing Marner with Hughes would be enticing.

Both the Sens and Devils can be playoff teams, even contenders, so why wouldn't Marner and Tavares waive? Do they want to stick around and get bounced out the 1st round again and again?

C'mon man, you really have ignored Tavares's NMC, maybe even Bratt's. These type of posts are kinda meaningless it shown how one of teams taking on the big cap (Devils) in this and Marner's new contract.

Cap is going up, Devils can afford it.

And NMCs can be waived. Ottawa is a desirable location for Tavares, it's close to home, a young promising team, new owners, new coach. And JT will have less pressure to be the captain and perform. It's time to turn the page on the Tavares saga in Toronto imo.

Hey, I don't mind turning the page on Tavares, but c'mon for the Sens and Tavares it makes no sense. Even the Devils, it probably doesn't makes sense.

I just don't think this team is deep enough or physical enough to get through Boston and Florida. But with a revamped roster, with a focus on defense and depth, with Matthews as Captain and a new coach, this team can win a Cup. Treliving just has to be bold.

Not sure Bratt for Marner makes much sense for NJD. Nemec makes zero sense.

You could just wait 1 more season and let Tavares walk....

Devils get the best player, a Selke nominee as a winger, who is still young enough to fit in with the Hughes-led cup window. It makes all the sense in the world.

Leafs need to recoup some assets and picks. Retaining half of his salary increases his trade value and allows the Leafs to get something back instead of just letting him walk to free agency.

Fair. I'd take that Sens deal if he waived. Trading Marner would be a mistake, though. And a return like that just isn't feasible for so many reasons. A realistic Marner trade would have us losing the trade 9/10 times.
