Kevin Allen reported Yzerman was talking to Dubas about Rust before the trade deadline.

It'll be interesting to see if they continue this summer.

I'd think both GM's have a few irons in the fire.

Calgary might consider that. The retention just might make Graves worth picking up but I hope they don't do it. I'd rather see them pursue Chyrchrun or a good UFA this summer.

Most people don’t realize how little cap Detroit is going to have after Seider, Raymond, and hopefully Kane. Probably need to ship some out versus bringing some in unless it’s a top 4 RD.

When Kane wasn't traded at the TDL the likely hood of him resigning got a lot better.

I wonder how much truth is involved in that?

I'm sure many GM's talk about many players, I don't put much weight into it.

Also the characteristics of the deal are greatly unknown, I would have a very hard time believing there wouldn't be some kind of retention.

Allen isn't known for spreading gossip.

I don't listen to Allen, but Friedman said multiple teams asked about Rust's availability and Dubas wasn't interested in moving him. Dubas was also asked explicitly if he asked Rust to waive his NMC and he said he didn't approach him about it. But Rust might waive for DET.

Yzerman is notorious for not leaking anything and Dubas is notorious for leaking bull**** lol.

That's Yzerman's reputation.

Allen said trying to get info from him is like trying to get into Fort Knox.

But we were all very much aware of Cat coming to Detroit last summer.

But Blabbermouth Dorion was probably the source.

Yeah it could've been Dubas on a fishing expedition.

Testing the waters to see what Rust could get if he made him available.

I don't think anybody was leaking info about Debrincat except his own agent lol.

Realistically, it's more likely they only intended on Detroit and either they or Ottawa (Or both) tried leaking other teams out to drive up the value. (Contract for Debrincat, trade for Ottawa)

The only two trades here that would be good from the pens POV would be the rust and kaliyev trades. The rest can pretty much deleted because after taking 2 steps forward with those 2 trades you took like 10 steps backwards with the other trades.

Yeah because Detroit is probably the only team that had enough cap space that Rust would waive for. I wouldn't't read too much into it.

Idk man - Pens have the cap space to re-sign Guentzel @9mil. Don't need to trade Rust to do so
