How to Fix this Team Next Year

Created by: Julius_Freezer
Team: 2024-25 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 3, 2024
Published: Apr. 3, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is how you fix the Canucks' scoring problems, I think the trades are fair although Kent Johnson's value is really difficult to determine rn based on the fact he's had a fairly serious injury, would have no problem adding Raty, Bains, and/or a couple mid round picks to that deal as I still strongly believe in his potential and he can be a great long-term fit on Petey's wing. Only problem with this roster is that it makes money tight as Hoglander and Boeser will be out of contract at the end of the season, dealing Garland should give the team enough money to sign both tho.

Top 5 pick who has not been able to hold down a spot in the lineup, has had injury issues and burned his ELC bouncing between the NHL and AHL. A trade home could help him realize his potential as getting to play with a guy like EP40 could be amazing for him.

You do realize Podkolzin has played 44 games in the AHL this season. Thats more than 3x the amount of games he played in the NHL this season.

Thats more because he's exempt from waivers but it was also for his benefit. Since he's come back to the NHL he's been solid and has forced himself into the lineup

I don’t want him for more than 5. 6 max. Sure as hell not paying to get an 8th year.

You want me take him longer than that you getter sign him for under 6m per.

Doesn't matter what you want, Boston will likely do this as they've been eying him hard for years

No they won’t. They don’t want that length either. They’ll just sign him in free agency….if they don’t trade for Draisaitl. If they do that they won’t want him at all.

Dickinson was significantly worse than Mikheyev was when VAN dealt him

Dickinson also almost half the cap hit too. Before this season Mikheyev hasn't proven he can stay in the lineup. Only 1 season 2020-21 where he played most of the games. His points/game and shots/game are way down. You gotta up your draft pick to take on his 2 years. It is that simple.

first off, sign and trades aren't really a thing. just move his UFA rights for a 5th or something.

Then, the big trade. You're looking through a canucks perspective of, "what's the minimum we can give up and keep it reasonable?" Sometimes that's fine, but not when a team has a young players rights for a long time, and has to be motivated to move him. The jackets would have to be floored by an offer in terms of fit and value to pull the trigger. do that, and it will be an interesting discussion.

So for KJ it's a negative to get AHL games, but for Podkolzin it's a positive. Ok.

Podkozlin is close enough, both are disgruntled former Top 10 picks who could benefit from a change of scenery, Podz may not have the offensive upside but he's more physical and better defensively.

This is your idea of a joke, right? He's a year and a half older and can't produce anything anywhere near Top-6 in the AHL, let alone the NHL. Given the number of young depth wingers we're shuffling around in the system already I'm not convinced we'd take him for free.

Zegras and KJ are very similar players and he's significantly further ahead in his career while only being 2 years older, maybe half is extreme but Zegras is worth at least a mid-late 1st rounder more than KJ

KJ (a guy with effectively 2 pro seasons under his belt where he's played 130 NHL games and 10 in the AHL, with a single injury ever): disgruntled AHLer, injury prone, can't hold a spot in the lineup.

Zegras (a guy with 205 NHL games in 4 season, with 2 significant injuries this year, and no less than 3 others that caused him to miss time so far in his career, and the constant subject of trade rumors): established NHL superstar worth considerably more.

Zegras is a great player, and yes he has more trade value, and yes it's probably about a mid-1st rounder in difference...but everything you've said about Johnson makes me think you're not all that familiar with Johnson, or Columbus. Playing with EP40 would likely help him reach his potential, as it would with most players, but what makes you think he can't reach it here when there's no indicators for that?

Calling you out on it isn't necessarily fair, you're not the only one and definitely not the worst, but there's a lot of double-standards regarding Columbus players here and elsewhere online. While they're here, they're "disgruntled" or "not reaching potential" or just "not a fit", and should be able to be had for cheap. But as soon as they get to your system, they're magically superstars and we're left with a box of scraps. We're not your god**** feeder team.
