Yep, and NJD offered Nemec 1 for 1 for 8 years of the significantly better Tkachuk at 9.5 million.

Since this is for 4 years of a significantly worse brother, NJD would offer significantly less

And that would not get Tkachuk.

The other Tkachuk wanted out and was only willing to extend with 4 teams or else he was gonna walk to free agency.

A Brady with no “trade clauses” would be traded anywhere for the best package. And if you don’t offer Nemec another team would offer a prospect/young player we’d need a lot more than the next best guy you’re willing to offer

Why is trading Brady part of your dream scenario?

Because I dont see the Sens being good enough in the next 2-3 years and he only has 4 years left on his deal. Might as well push the contention window another 2-3 years and look to build a team that can be a longterm success with a good prospect pool

The other scenario is going on a 3 year window run right now but burning up all the future assets and that’s horrible longterm

NJD was willing to pay Simon Nemec and nothing else for 8 years of Matthew Tkachuk at 9.5 million.

Why would they pay more for 4 years of his significantly worse brother.

If a team is willing to give up a nemec caliber asset for Brady Tkachuk they can go ahead and have him.

You want a top caliber player for Brady Tkachuk, but said player also needs younger, play a more valuable position, have more team control, and be on a deal that pays him 7 million less a year.

The NHL is a salary cap league.

A guy providing 5 mill worth of value making 1 mill provides just as much value to a team as a guy providing 12 mill worth of value making 8 mill

Buddy Brady’s market value is already at 10-11 mill and the cap will be at 95 mill in a few years

So if you value Brady Tkachuk at 11 mill, let's assume 5% growth every year (inflation)

That would put him at 47.41in total value over the next 4 years. Lets round to 48.

So that is 15.2 mill in surplus value.

Nemec makes 900k. He's already a 6+ mill caliber dman in his age 19 season. We have 6+ years of team control (more realistically 10 with an 8 year extension).

No they really don't. Everyone thinks their star with a large contract will return the moon. They never do.

Teams trying to trade their stars do not get a player of greater quality back. They get quantity.

Eichel package (and frankly I'd value eichel above Tkachuk)

Marino
Holtz
2025 1st

Hagel Package:
2025 1st
2026 1st
Kevin Bahl
Lenni

Matthew Tkachuk Comp (again I'd value Matthew significantly higher):

Hamilton
Haula
2025 1st

Timo Meier Comp (this one is the most accurate)

2024 1st
2025 conditional 2nd that can upgrade to a 1st
Casey

(and the pick is significantly higher than the pick for Meier)

Haha what a joke this is. 8 mil for Tkachuk isn’t even that much . And Brady can be traded to any team. Those offers are a joke buddy .

Eichel was gonna have a dangerous surgery that no one knew how he’d recover from and Buffalo had to move him

Matthew only wanted to go to 4 teams

If you want Brady you’re overpaying there’s no way around it.

Casey, Holtz, Marino, aren’t worth **** in a Tkachuk trade

Then send Tkachuk to one of those other teams. See what they offer.

Matthew only wanting to go to 4 teams just means those 4 teams are lucky for the opportunity.

More bidders on a worse asset doesn't make it worth more than less bidders on a significantly better asset.

That’s hilarious. Every team would want a Brady and see the potential. Comparing him to Meier is an insult to Tkachuk.

Timo Meier in the 2 years before the trade:
0.955 PPG, 0.49GPG

Brady Tkachuk in the last 2 years:
0.955 PPG, 0.436GPG

Meier having significantly better defensive analytics.

Going into most common linemates:

Meier:
1: Hertl
2: Barabanov
3: Couture
4: Lablanc
5: Dahlen

Tkachuk:
1: Stutzle
2: Giroux
3: Batherson
4: Pinto
5: Norris
I think it's quite clear who had more help around them

But sure, Brady Tkachuk is more of a goon.

Again, slight edge for being younger but also is at the point where the development curve has levelled out so not particularly relevant.

Ottawa fans remain in shock when their high shot volume power forward winger with 0.955 ppg and 0.4some GPG gets compared to another high shot volume power forward winger with 0.955 ppg and 0.4some GPG

Brady is pretty close to Meier. That’s not insulting at all

It’s more insulting when Sens fans compare Brady to far better players like his brother

Timo the 2 years pre trade and Tkachuk the last 2 years have the same PPG down to three decimal places, with Meier having more goals per game, better defensive analytics, and doing that with less help and Senators fans are shocked and offended every time the 2 are mentioned.

Even similar playstyles of physical power forwards who rely on shot volume.

But Meier had some struggles to start this year battling through injury and so he has since become underrated and people can't seperate his pretrade value from his struggles battling through injuries since then.

And a lot of people somehow get the impression that Brady is as good as Matthew.

Interestingly enough Luke Hughes gets the opposite treatment, with people underrating his successes and overblowing his failures because he isn't as good as his brothers.

Isles should do the swap, but Pelech's NTC would complicate that. I'd be very happy with that/extending Chychrun
