They want Allen to be backup next year and Flames want Wolf to play so remove Allen

Regardless of ownership's stance on retention, you can only retain on 3 contracts meaning at least one of those firsts has to be 2025 as the trade would happen after the draft.

I'd rather trade Vladar and keep allen as a mentor. I think NJ would be fine with Schmid as backup if they had Makrstrom

What do you think MTL would want for their 1st? They'd be using that pick to get a winger and would be getting 2 in this trade, Kuzy is a top 6 winger right now and coronato has the potential to become one as well.

No I think it was made pretty clear that they want to keep Allen to be backup for next season. They won't trade him.

To get the habs 5th overal pick ypu are giving 9th , the vancouver 1st, the 2 2nds this year and taking on josh anderson.

We dont want coronato or kuzmenko.

Lol I don't think Montreal would part with 5th overall but that's a huge overpay to move up 4 spots.

I think Lindstrom will be available for them at 5th. Who do you want to draft there to make this trade?

My guess is that only our 2024 1st from Winnipeg is on the table.

Now if Montreal remains at pick 5 and Calgary at pick 9, they might swap picks, as long as Calgary gives up a player like Connor Zary and in return we add Pittsburgh's 2nd in 2025.
(The flames shouldn't do this though.)

No chance does Montreal do that, we'll give you WPGs 1st and you keep Kuzmenko.

Its 4 spots in the single digits. The closest comparable in the last 20 years is the 2008 luke shenn draft

5th went for 7, 37, 68.

The flames picks are 9, 27, 41, 64.

41 and 64 match the 37 and 68 while 27 is the extra cost for moving 4 spots instead of 2.

People thought Montreal would take a center with their 2022 1st and a forward with their 2023 1st. No one knows exactly who Montreal will use that pick for.

They're obviously not going to even consider moving that pick for a rental winger with big question marks and an undersized prospect/young NHLer that hasn't done much yet and doesn't address a need for Montreal. Realistically, the only thing Calgary could offer for Montreal's 2024 1st is their own plus future(s) that would address a need for Montreal and the quality of which would be painful to give up.

I was under the impression from Habs fans online that their biggest need was Wingers. But youre right they could do anything with that pick

I'd take Lindstrom at 5th but I Doubt He'd be available so I'd take either Dickinson or Parekh. I think its likely MTL takes Iginla at 5th and I'd want us to take him at 9.

Montreal's biggest need is probably center, but forwards is applicable because they have guys who play both positions. Specifically they want size and elite offensive talent. But that's also the tiebreaker when drafting.

Either way, Calgary doesn't really have the ability to make the trade without overpaying in futures.

Terrible trades for Flames, those are overpays. Flames do not need to give up a first to NJD if giving up Markstrom (and don’t want mediocre Allen as they have Wolf coming up). Also a big overpay on Montreal trade by Flames ain’t happening- FUNNY STUFF THOUGH
