Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Necas, Martin [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Because the compensation for an offer sheet of 7M$ to Necas would be a 1st+2nd+3rd, that pretty much tells us what CAR should get on the trade market.
CAR should accept a deal if they get a little bit more than that.
Also, there is 12 OTHER teams that can, right now, offer that compensation just like MTL.
CAR
  1. Barron, Justin [RFA Rights]
  2. Matheson, Michael
  3. 2025 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
In Matheson, CAR get an elite defenseman with a crazy cheap contrat still good for 2 years. This would be good for CAR who wants to go far again in the next playoffs.
Barron could also be a good young defenseman with a little bit of NHL experience. He will be at worst top 6 and at best top 4 in the NHL.
Then, I don't think this might be necessary, but a 3rd OR a 2nd pick could be added to the deal to get it done.
2.
MTL
  1. Veleno, Joseph [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Veleno, a Montreal native of 24 years old, is projected to be a center on a 3rd line. In the 23-24 season, he had a career high with 12G and 16A in 80 games.
He is winning about 56% of his draws. He can kill penalties.

Then, MTL will have to sign him for $2.1 million /season.

About his next contrat: https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/detroit-red-wings/latest-news/what-michael-rasmussens-last-extension-tells-us-about-joe-velenos-next-contract
DET
  1. Harris, Jordan
Additional Details:
DET had 5 defensemen between 28 and 36 years old in the 23-24 season. That is a pretty old defensive.
That's why DET could use a young 23 years old defenseman top 4 (probably top 4 soon) with a last season at $1.4M before becoming RFA.
3.
MTL
  1. 2024 1st round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
This NSH 1st pick = 22th overall

NSH could have interest by drafting Cole Hutson (talented LD) in the 27th rank and having a fair top 9 forward at the same time.
NSH
  1. Armia, Joel
  2. 2024 1st round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
This WPG 1st pick = 27th overall

"Hi! How much does it cost to climb from the 27th to the 22th rank to draft Andrew Bashaw? We could give you a forward for this."
4.
MTL
  1. 2025 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
WAS really struggled on the faceoffs this season having only one centerman above 50 at faceoff win percentage (FO%).
Because WAS already got 3 2nd round pick in 2025, this could be a really easy way for WAS to get a good center at the faceoff with a FO% of 57%.
The risk for WAS in this trade is really low because of the 50% salary retained by MTL.
Dvorak will be UFA in the 2025 summer
WSH
  1. Dvorak, Christian ($2,200,000 retained)
  2. 2025 4th round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
With the newcomers forwards (Necas, Veleno) MTL need to make space in offensive for younger prospects like Sean Farell or Owen Beck

Explain to me why Washington is paying a 2nd for a player making 4.5m and hasn’t done **** in years? Honestly the 2nd should be going to other way.

Maybe they’d take a shot at Barron depending on how the right side of the defense shakes out, but Matheson isn’t really needed. They have Slavin and Orlov already and there’s a possibility of Nikishin coming over as soon as this coming season. Even if it’s next year, having well over 15 mil tied up in 3 LHD with the uncertainty in the forward core isn’t the smartest option. Matheson would need to be replaced with one of your better forward prospects.

Armia will not return anything close to that kind of return. You’re lucky to get a 4th.

Canes aren’t trading a young top 6 forward for a 30 year old defenseman they don’t even need

Well as every team bar MTL declines I'd say yeah if you got those through you should probably get the job. Now show us the version where you aren't doing drugs?

Quite a few Habs fans severely over value Matheson. There was a thread a couple of weeks ago where some Habs fans felt Matheson for Necas was a fair trade.

LMFAO

Necas is worth nothing more than a 3rd or 4th right now since it would just be the value of his signing rights being sold.

He’s an rfa aka it’s more than his signing rights. They can just go the arb route and keep him. What a silly take.

Edvindsson is the only one with experience in the NHL and he have 25GP at 21 years old... We don't know if Detroit is fine at LD.

Yeah... it's true that with Orlov and Slavin, Matheson might not be needed. But he still have a smaller salary and he's the 9th point leader as defensemen in the league.
And unfortunatly, MTL do not have a forward prospect to trade. At best, a 1st pick maybe.

Seriously, with the way they react to some trades involving him, you’d think they were trading away Quinn Hughes

He is an rfa for what 1 or 2 more years, not like 4 or 5. Taking him to arb would still just meant they are only guaranteed to get him for 1 year as well so still its basically just his signing rights

No but it isn't the same as trading for an RFA with 5 years of team control either. Add to that the fact that the Canes have to move him to sign other more important players and that according to his own father he would prefer to move on from the Canes for a bigger role elsewhere and you are not getting the value you think you would

Quite a bit different than your initial post saying he’s worth a mid round pick. They won’t get a massive haul for him but they’ll get good value for him in the form of higher draft picks and/or prospects or involve him in a hockey trade. Look at historical comps and you’ll easily see that precedent. Regardless of an angry parent lol
