You can offer Pettersson for the 1st round pick and the Devils will probably pass on it. Hughes is a generational talent with about as much upside as we've seen in recent drafts; same as Dahlin last year. Guys like Dahlin, Hughes, McDavid, Matthews, Stamkos, Kane, Crosby...Hughes is in that same position as all of those guys were and all are generational talents. You build teams around guys like this, you don't trade away that unless the offer is just crazy good.</div></div>
McDavid & Crosby are generational of which there are very few ..... everyone else was a very talented & clear 1st choice in their draft but never a sure thing by any means ... Hughes has the potential to be very good but by no means is he generational

The only chance VAN has to move up to 1st is if they get 2nd or 3rd OA ... otherwise they would be mortgaging too much of their future

Trade with Tampa
I like what your thinking here .... the RD is what the Canucks need back if Tanev goes, I like the Edler & Boeser signings, but don't think we will pay Hutton that much for that long ... would be better at $2.5M for 2 as we also will be trying to get Juolevi into the lineup sometime soon. I still think that VAN needs to move some of their RFA's this offseason .... Granlund, Goldobin, Motte, Hutton could all be on the block and they need to move at least one, if not 2 contracts - choice of Sutter, Eriksson, Schaller & Spooner.

Hughes & Boeser are NOT on the table .... Gaudette, Virtanen or Juolevi (he was playing really well in the AHL before his injury GP 18 G 1 A 12) would be the young assets VAN would move
I don't really think the Canucks are prepared to move any of their top 4 or 5 players/prospects right now.... not even for Werenski

More prospects NJD NSH VAN NYI
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>Why do you say that? Granlund is on pace for three consecutive 60+ point seasons. He's not quite a Panarin or Stone, but he's signed an additional year so he's more than just a rental for Nashville. Fiala is a good young player and Tolvanen is a good young prospect, but I don't think Tolvanen will live up to the hype of becoming an elite top-line goal scorer (I see him as more of a potential top 6 player who will score more than he gets apples). Tolvanen is also probably another year or two out from being NHL ready and probably another additional year in the NHL in a lesser role before he starts to blossom, the Preds best shot at a cup is the next couple years IMO and they don't have time to wait for Tolvanen. It's defintiely a high price to pay for a player, but as I said Granlund is more than a rental for them and he's an upper-echelon player.
Zucker is shooting at 9.2% this year, which is well below his career average of 12.2%. He's severely snakebitten and while I don't quite think he'll be the 33 goal scorer he was last year, he will definitely be above 20 goals each year. Can you say the same for Virtanen? That remains TBD. Virtanen was thrown to the dogs way too early and I don't ever see his hype becoming realized. To me his a perennial 15-20g/30-40p guy and 40p's is stretching it. Gaudette is a wild-card, he's produced in the AHL but he's largely unproven at the NHL level. Canucks are getting a sure-thing here with Zucker who has a long-term deal in place.</div></div>
VAN is not looking at Zucker - Severely snake-bitten??? 9.2 % is pretty normal ... you are simply overvaluing him - he shot 8.2% a few years ago as well, so this in not WAY out there for him... he is also 27 and has had only one season of more than 50 pts (might get there this year) - 3 years ago he has 71GP & just 23 pts (at age 24) ... he's in his prime right now and being overpaid @ $5.5M until he's 32 in 2023... while Jake is just finding his own & only 22 ... has increased his production from last year and plays a physical game to boot!

Virtanen & Gaudette For Zucker is not gonna happen... Virtanen plus a late pick (5th) or a someone like Pouliot or Gagner but definitely not both young players ... Zucker only has 7 more points than Virtanen this year

Busy Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nuxfan</b></div><div>You need to give up assets to get better... The Canucks don't need to make any real splashes at the deadline because they are not buyers or sellers... Benning and Co. are pretty good at drafting so I think the more picks they can accumulate the better (even if they are late)... Getting earlier picks would require moving roster players which is unlikely</div></div>
VAN needs to be sellers at the deadline .... they are not contenders & just making the playoffs doesn't help them any ... Benning needs to leverage some of the NHL talent he currently has to keep building towards an actual contender. They should be moving out at least Pouliot and maybe Hutton or Stecher.... AND they should be moving out at least 3 forwards from the group of Goldobin, Granlund, Motte, Gagner, Pyatt, Baertschi, Boucher, Gaunce .... really anyone not named Elias, Bo or Brock
The Canucks have too many just OK guys & have lots of talent coming that they should be making room for.....

Well take Laine
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItsBlowTime</b></div><div>So many things wrong with this and I'll give you two prime examples:
1: the trade crosby train when he had all his injuries. Keep Crosby and they win back to back
2: Trade Ovi when he was on pace for career lows. Keep Ovi, he's still a god damn stud in his 30's and led the team to their first cup.
WPG trading Laine cause he's having a bad stretch is the EXACT SAME as Canucks trading Boeser when he had a slow start. But you heard NOTHING about fans wanting Boeser gone. Also, what frustrates me the most about cap friendly is so many people treat it as the EA Sports NHL games, as if it's all statistical value based
ie:
Laine has a value of 80/100
Kulikov 10/100
Total 90/100
Bae 20/100
Edler 20/100
Leivo 10/100
Goldobin 15/100
Gagner 5/100
1st rd pick 40/100
Total 110/100
Therefore WPG definitely does this trade cause they're getting more value back, right?
How about this.. How about Canucks trade Boeser and Gudbranson to WPG for roslevic, petan, lowry, kulikov, perrault, and their 1st and next years 2nd. Not a hope in hell Canucks do that. So why would WPG?</div></div>
Don`t dance around it ... just put the offer of Boeser & Gudbranson for Laine & Kulikov out there then.... oh and if you think Kulikov is equal to Edler you have no idea what ur talking about ... he`s more like an older Trouba - Edler`s avg is 35 points and has had 50 in his best years

Agree on the pass of Eriksson... so take him out ... But Virtanen, Woo (very good D prospect) & 1st for Stone ... overpayment for a rental, he would have to agree to an extension prior to the deal ... also VAN 2019 1st is OFF the table this year - they are hosting the draft

BTW, Edler will also not require a top prospect or pick back to VAN...</div></div>
VAN has too many LD as it is .... they will want to make room for the young Hughes to step in ... he will likely sign & play after NCAA season is over ... Petan is more of what VAN already has too much of - not interested ... Kulikov is a CAP dump hasn't been very good since he left FLA ... IF WPG had a high 2nd then that would do but the late 1st is probably the cost for Edler
