oilers habs swap dmen
Montreal have enough Defenseman prospect already and are lacking for Forward prospect. If they are try to get an player back it would be between one of the follow: Bourgault, Lavoie or Holloway.
Only reason they would accept an Broberg is there alot of injury on rocket Laval roster and he could fill an spot or they have already another trade in line for him ?

Yeah I think Lindholm would get around that 8 years for 8 millions or maybe a bit less like 7.5 but if he's not getting is price he will hit free agent to try get more possible.

Nope he's not the messy but Canes just got him for free which will not made them rush or overpay for one.
Oilers, Avalanche, Leafs, Devils that only 4 team left as buyer and for the seller you have: Gibson (Anaheim), Markstrom ( Calgary), Vejmelka (Arizona), Merzlikins ( Colombus), Fleury ( Minnesota), Allen ( Montréal), kahkonen (shark) and that without talking if Hart or Saros is available

No but I think any trade for Lindholm would be like Dubois where there will be an extension already in place to be able to accept the offer.

Spencer Martin have been claimed on waiver by Carolina which was one of the team on need of an goaltender. That mean one less buyer and too many goaltender sellers on the market.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>He isn't a difference maker </div></div>
Did you have seen any game of Montreal last year ? When he was healthy Monahan was taking some pressure out of Suzuki and help him being more dominant. The exact moment Monahan was injured and out Suzuki play and stats crash under the pressure of being the only good center available.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>
Monahan is in a bad spot, he's not good enough offensively to play in the top 6 of a playoff team and isn't his enough defensively to play in the bottom 6 of a playoff team.</div></div>
Tell me did you see who's is linemate ? He have bad linemate who not performing or defense well. He's also part of an rebuilding team you can't have high expectations on defense when your rebuilding.
Curiously Monahan is offensive enough when playing along the armia, Anderson or Gallagher but when he get good winger like Caufield, Joshua Roy he's able to produce more.
The reason he's performing better on PP is simple because he's playing with better teammates who able to finish is play not missing the net.

Hutson, Montembeault and Mesar would provide more contributions as an team them the potential that Leon will bring on the first line.
Montembeault is currently Habs first goaltender and the next one who have the potential to be #1 is Fowler and he's not going to be ready for few season again.
Hutson is probably the best defensive prospect if not prospect in general for the team. IF he reach is celling of quarterback for the team Montreal will have is #1 that he never has for the last few years outside of the glorious day.
While Mesar is not the most flashy player would probably be the new arthuri lekhonen to the team and give good service to the team on an bottom six.

There to much good goaltender available right now to get anything near this trade for Allen. Even today Colombus have put Spencer Martin on waiver to send him down and would almost for sure be pick by one the the many team in dire need of goaltender presence.
I would ideally prefer letting Savard one more year with the team to help with the young guys but with the emergence of Struble and with Xhekaj/ Mailloux pair being better and better game after game maybe there spot that would be needed sooner to be made for the young guys.

Totally right on this, there need to be an minimum of an fourth or third round pick involved to burn one years and halve of contract retention for Chicago.
Edit: also why would Montreal want an defenseman in return of Allen ? Montreal have too many D prospect and are thinking of trading one or two for acquiring an good forward.

And how Monahan was going to last year? And how Petry was going to again when they reacquired him in the offseason? Is it wise to have this debate again?</div></div>
Dont you think montreal have an good return for Petry ? i do find it very good myself and didnt cost alot in fact.
the first trade was about: 2015 second round pick (#57) Jonas Siegenthaler + 2015 Fourth round pick (#117) Caleb Jones to get Petry who give good year for Montreal
the Second trade was about: Michael Matheson ( top 4 nhl ready young vets ) at good salary price and an 2023 Fourth round pick (#110) Bogdan Konyushkov to remove Petry 6m for one year and trade away poehling who didnt fit and have ask for an trade.
the third trade they get Petry back with 25% ( 1.562m ) less on is contract for 2 years + Nathan Légaré good AHL player to help Rocket and french an 2025 second round pick and Casey DeSmith which have been trade to Canuck for Pearson and 2025 third round pick. In the same deal Montreal was able to remove Mike Hoffman which havent been good for the team and Rem Pitlick who still try to find himself a spot somewhere.
the last trade Montreal keep 50% ( 2,343m ) from Petry in exchange for Gustav Lindstrom who have been a okay assurance police and an 2025 fourth round pick from Détroit OR Boston which one is the later of the two. And what was most important in this trade for Kent Hughes was is reputation as GM who care about is player which would improve the chance of an free agent wanting to come to montreal knowing that the gm will take care of him.
Valuable wise Montreal have really made good with the return of Petry, there no actual first round pick as you say but the value back is much more. Montreal get in pick 1 fourth round pick, 1 third round pick, 1 second round pick, 1Rusian D-man Prospect, 1 AHL player and 2 NHL player veteran who help the team and could be sold back to acquire asset again. Yes Montreal have keep over 2.4m in case but when in rebuilding mode who care ? is not like habs are in dear need of money right now or next year. The cap should growth and i wont be surprised if in this deadline Montreal play office to an Bad contract deal or Retain party deal for two other team.
the same could be say about Edmunson at the base he cost only an 2020 fifth round pick and in the end give back and 2024 third and 2024 seven round pick. That without what the guys have bring to the team and give as experience to the young. would in the end i like that he play better and get an better return yeah but i think is injury have mark him so much that he wasnt able to be able to be as performant was he was supposed to be.

P.kane may have an agreement with redwings GM to send him to a team for the playoff if they're not in position to do it themselves. This could give some asset to Detroit and satisfy the player who would be more then interested to resign after that to an other one or two years deal with the team.

</div></div>
Ovi is an case on himself, when Trotz have coach him he obliged him to be better defensively, make him do is back check to the d zone. Trotz always want good defensive play but he also push for the offensive which in the end have made him one of the better coach in the league.
<a href="/users/Ennis" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Ennis</a> I may be bias as Habs fan but I got the assumption that an elite top 2 pairing defenseman would be more valuable to any team then an top 4 or top 6 player.
From what expert scout have say on Reinbacher was that he was top 2 pair type of guys that have gone under radar due to being in an league with less coverage. From what they say he was kinda like the Sender / Heiskanan type player
If Reinbacher is really an top 2 d-man now is more real that multiple team try to trade for him. An legit top 2 pair is always more harder to acquire then an first line, you can sometimes get one player top line in free market and with some overpayment get him Ex: Panarin

Not so much Kuzmenko didn't seem to fit this year and not doing is best don't help, Podkolzin didn't seem to develop as he was supposed and they're first round pick will for sure be an top 20 to 32. I would not even be surprised to see them going far in playoff. Could be fun to an west final between Jets and Canucks.
So in term of value they would give top 6 forward who's not fitting, top 9 forward not developing really and an late first round pick to acquire an real first line winger for the end of season + playoff. Add they could have the chance to made him resign with them as he would play with E.Petterson which is a really good argument to sell someone an contract.

This could be an good idea for Pittsburgh to use Guentzel as rental get asset back and resign him in summer if the team is not going to be competitive for playoff.

Be it real or not, the rumors was that Nashville was offering Askarov along with pick #15 and #24 for Montreal #5.
<a href="/users/Ennis" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Ennis</a> Nashville couldn't settle for Willander as Vancouver pick him up 4 selection before. The two only defenseman available before molendyk at #15 was A S Pellika or Oliver Bonk who are more top 4 then top 2 d-man. And team would prefer a good top 6 with gabarit over the top 4 offensive D.
I don't know where I hear it or read it but the rumors about Reinbacher was that there was multiple team that convert the guys and he would still be the first d-man pick so this is why Montreal didn't want to trade down because they knew he would be pick and they (scout) sure seem to love him so much that they think the value of having him is way over the value of trading down and have more asset to add to the rebuilding pool.
Flyer was for sure interested into an trade to acquire the #5 Montreal pick to get Reinbacher and keep they're #7 for Michkov.
In the end I think both team management and fans got what they want. Except for the one who only want to criticize.
