Chychrun for Boqvist plus Murphy Going crazy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Cannon</b></div><div>I think we missed the boat on Murphy. We should have paid for him at the draft after we missed on chych (if rumors are true). Then we don’t sign gudbranson and we have a right side of boqvist, Murphy, and peeke. Plus blankenburg in the back. A much better right side than this.(I mean the left side is great but I personally don’t want chych at this point.).</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pwisch17</b></div><div>CBJ can't have both Murphy and Gudbranson on the right side. They need a better puck mover, like Chychrun.
Murphy is not a top-pairing quality player. He's a fit for the second pair, but Peeke is improving and already capable of playing there.</div></div>
Sorry I'm just frustrated with the very poor pre-season we've seen so far from Bean and Boqvist in particular. Chychrun is very good player, top pairing guy on quite a few teams but ideally a top 4 guy on a stanley cup contending team. 24 years old, good contract but man I'm worried about the injury history.. I think at this point we're probably going to roll with the D that we have.. I'm excited to see what Peeke and Blankenburg can do... Really hoping Boqvist figures it out. I'm less then hopefull regarding Bean.. Hpoefully we get Gavrikov resigned.. Just worried about this D-core.

It's the future, I'm sure Boone will get plenty of time at center this year but if this team grows it's going to be with Johnson and Sillinger at Center.

Jiricek should be top pair/T4 RD next year to take his place. Mateychuk is probably 2 years away still but even if he’s ready next year they just need to move out Bean so he can play 3LD, but I’m guessing he takes an extra year because of the depth the CBJ have now on D.</div></div>
Chychrun is a very good player, injuries concern me but he's a top 4 D, 24 years old and signed for 3 more years at 4.6. He would fit the trajectory of this team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pwisch17</b></div><div>I think we all know that is not case. CBJ consistently outperform his "model" and he compensates by saying they'll regress to the mean every year. They are a young and growing team and that does not factor in. Laine, Jenner and Voracek played great together and helped create a ton of offense last year, but he has them all doing worse this year. Jenner's GSVA last year was 1.5 and should be even better between Laine and Gaudreau this year, but he has him projected at 0.3. Laine was .9 and is projected to do the exact same even though he has improved each season with CBJ and will be playing with Gaudreau. He also sleeps on getting any impact from Boqvist or Marchenko, and his model doesn't even come close to accounting for the value the Gudbranson will bring.</div></div>
I wouldn't mind Bailey, but we already have too many wingers...

I like Chychrun, I think he's a solid top-4 guy... but I feel like people keep forgetting he's been fairly injury prone. PLUS Mateychuk and Jiricek will probably be on the #CBJ roster within 3 years and both have higher ceilings.

OOOFFFFF, 9.85 x 5 years (78M, 55M in signing bonuses... making this essentially buyout proof) Plus he's been a 50 point guy in the last 3 seasons.
I love his skill set and the idea of him being rejuvenated is very enticing. However that's a brutal contract combined with injury history and a significant performance decline....
I feel pretty confident predicting that the Stars are not going to be able to move that contract until the final two years, maybe...

Rumors are indeed that teams are looking to fetch a first round pick for cap dumps. Which is insane, teams aren't going to give up RFA controlled years of potentially (these are two very good drafts) 1st line and top pairing players.

People seem to forget that about 3/4 of the league has zero to very little cap space... Reality is that other teams knew the situation the Jackets were in and are looking to fleece the Jackets, which they did. It's kind of ironic because Jarmo has talked about being able to do exactly this when the cap crunch would hit (darn Gaudreau signing, lol). Good for the cap space teams to capitalize on this though. Nyquist is a very good middle six, veteran player who is very versatile, widely respected known commodity around this league. When the trade deadline comes this season every single cup contending team will contact Jarmo about Nyquist, he has value but the Cap crunch situation is unique and the cap space teams capitalized on it. I love Bjorkstrand, it still stings but we added Johnny Hockey.. Well worth it..

Like the conversations he has with guys like Peeke, Jiricek and Cuelemans when they're in the sauna, in the weight room, after tough losses, etc. He has always been extremely respected everywhere he goes. Those are guys that create a good culture for organizations. He's not getting bought out until MAYBE the last year of his contract, but I doubt it. More likely is that he ends up on LTIR for the final year.</div></div>
Clearly the Jackets defense got some skill, and there is more skill coming.. but as Torts would say we are missing some stiffness. Gudbranson brings a lot of stiffness to this undersized D-core, I saw that golf outing picture today and boy ... we definitely needed some size there.

Plus the cost to unload him would have to include a 1st round pick and these upcoming two years are loaded with high-end talent. Makes zero sense to sacrifice that when he's still a very good NHL player, overpaid sure... but still producing at a high level.

That being said, the guy was one of the leading scorers on one of the KHL's top teams at 20/21 years old. He likely would have been the leading scorer had they not kneecap'd his playing time <a href="https://theathletic.com/3298916/2022/05/08/blue-jackets-kirill-marchenko-russia/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">after he declined to sign a three-year extension during the season,</a> because he wanted to come to the NHL.
I'm apprehensive on Chinny, if only because it felt like the team tried to force him onto the team last year, despite struggling for a majority of the season. I still think he can turn it around and become a solid M6 guy, but I just think he needs more AHL time before that happens.</div></div>
Yeah I'm familiar with the behind the scenes politics he had to endure in the KHL and if you look up his advanced analytics card, it's off the charts good... I really hope he turns out as good as everyone thinks he's going to ... but I'm skeptical, I'm really hoping though.. that would be sweet.

I really hope he does, but until I see him produce at the NHL level, I'm going to be skeptical. I wasn't impressed by his Traverse city outing, can't wait to see how he does in training camp though and especially the pre-season games.

Yeah 4x4 isn't a great contract, not going to argue there.. but at least there's a good chance that cap will go up significantly in the next few years and that might make that deal a bit more palatable in a few years.
Let's see what he can bring on the #CBJ before completely writing him off, he might be better then we anticipate . I think expectations among the #CBJ fan base are so low he might actually impress... I hope

Predictions and line combinations
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>it looks bad at first glance but it really depends on how good Johnson and Silinger are. If both guys can play centre and do it to their potential it can be good. But if they are just average, their centre lineup gets shredded for sure.</div></div>
As a #CBJ fan I'm not too worried about the center depth, Roslovic and Jenner are both capable 2Cs. Sillinger was great as an 18 yr old and Sean Kuraly is a solid bottom 6C. It's nearly impossible to acquire top-6 Centers in the league, you have to draft and develop them and we have two young studs that might fill that role in Johnson and Sillinger. Don't sleep on Roslovic though, he's a skilled guy that's been really inconsistent but he was dynamite down the stretch last year. I'm thinking he gets a shot to play with Johnny Hockey and Laine, his skill set could make that a dynamic top line.
So yeah in essence we're developing Johnson and Sillinger to take those top 2 center spots, but in the meantime we have two dynamic play making wingers in Gaudreau and Voracek who will make life easier for their centers.
The help on Defense will take longer to get here though, but with Jiricek, Mateychuk and Ceulemans coming it should be a dynamic defense in a few years.

Yeah they have too much talent to be in the Bedard sweepstakes, but are they good enough to make the playoffs. They're not going to have any trouble scoring but are they going to be able to play a better defensive game. It's going to be very interesting to watch, which rookies will step up and who is going to struggle. Roslovic, Johnson, Sillinger, Marchenko, Chinakhov, Boqvist, Peeke, Blankenburg and maybe Jiricek will all be young guys that can take another step. Should be one of the youngest if not the youngest team in the league again.
On the bright side, if this season just goes off the rails for whatever reason... I wouldn't mind adding Bedard to that young core..
