Who Adds
Why would Edmonton trade Barrie, when Bouchard is entering a contract year?
Barrie is a good 1pp defender, 7g and 41pts in 73 last season, 48pts in 56 the year before.
It's not broke, and putting Bouchard into the drivers seat on PP1 might take his contract to levels Edmonton's not prepared for.

Day 1 - 167 in cap space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>herzausstein</b></div><div>Actually 0 in cap space as the LTIR prior to season start will only open up exactly the amount necessary to be cap compliant. Any unused amount is wasted. This is probably as close as you can get it though so good job.</div></div>
Technically correct is the best kind of correct.
This maxes out the Accruable Cap Space Limit (ACSL.) From this site's FAQ, "The ACSL is only calculated when a team first enters LTIR, if a player is placed on LTIR while another player is already on LTIR, the ACSL is not recalculated. In the event that a team stops using LTIR, their ACSL resets to the default upper limit of the active season, upon reentering LTIR, the ACSL is again recalculated.
As I understand it, the game plan is to maximize the relief pool.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rext7177</b></div><div>If Kenny doesn't make a trade then they really have no choice, unless Foegele goes onto waivers which is a real possibility</div></div>
I see Foegele and Ryan going to waivers and demoted, and McLeod getting a 1 year, $1.135m contract.
With Samorukov and Benson as extras, they have a 21 man roster with 88k in available cap.

Could happen, but don't need to give up assets to make the current roster work. From what's been on 1260 and CHED, I wouldn't be shocked to see this.

I look at it as an 11-7 roster to start, picked Samorukov as he's waiver eligible, but could see Nemo in that role.
I don't see Edmonton giving up much for cap room, given where they are.

Kassian minutes?
Fourth line becomes the filler you saw when they went 7-11 in the playoffs.

Edmonton moves to compete
Pretty good, agree with the general approach.
A couple of notes that may change your roster.
- Skinner is now waiver eligible, and with his stats and salary, you can put him in as the backup in pen.
- Darren Dreger reported that " highly likely that Smith will go on long-term injury reserve for the remainder of his contract, which only has one more year on it at $2.2 million." I'd move him to LTIR.
- I think that Samorukov, who becomes waiver eligible and is really liked by the team, is one of the scratches, and if not him, Niemelainen, who played 20 games and is a fan favorite.
- Ryan McLeod will get more than that, Yamamoto less. Kulak a little more, and I honestly think Puljujarvi will be back at just under the Yamamoto number.

While I could see Puljujarvi traded for a goalie, I'm not sure that Edmonton brings Talbot back. 35 years old, 1 year deal.
More likely Edmonton signs a FA, and moves Puljujarvi in another deal.

I wouldn't sign it, given where the cap is (and the expected post covid rise.) Letang, at what, 35 just signed for $6.1m x 6yr? Great player, but if Bouchard is playing PP#1 with McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, why would he sign a cheaper deal than wait and see?

Honest question, why would he sign it? If they're moving Barrie, I'm looking at PP#1. Costs me nothing to wait and see what they do. (or is the contract assuming he's PP#1 baked in?)

Honestly, wouldn't move Barrie this year. Bouchard on the 1 PP unit will likely get great stats, in a contract year. I'd rather hold on to him, let him get all the McDavid PP points, and keep Bouchard's next contract easier to deal with.

More likely, Edmonton just signs Kuemper (Saskatoon boy,) and Ullmark and Swayman play for Boston next season, and when Swayman's deal ends next season, Boston finds a team that #1, Ullmark will waive for, #2, has $5m to spend on a goalie, and #3, offers them something/anything. (or moves Swayman, who will get paid.)

Boston can hold on to Ullmark or use the cap space bringing in Puljujarvi elsewhere, and Edmonton signs one of the FA goalies. That deal, IMO, helps both teams with cap, but I could see Edmonton signing Kuemper/Campbell, holding on to JP's rights, and flipping him later (assuming you're right, and he's not coming back, weird career move,)

Sounds like Edmonton will only move Puljujarvi for player(s), not picks, given where they are in their rebuild. That, and he's going to be looking for more than $1.5m x 1.

Sure, but way more likely to flame out (or in this case, end up with a 3rd line player based on his stats.) How many GM's want to take that risk? That's why there are so few offer sheets.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alwaysnextyear</b></div><div>Puljujarvi is absolutely an offer sheet candidate in the 2nd rounder compensation range.</div></div>
The reason there are so few offer sheets, is they have to be an overpayment for the player to work. Otherwise, quick match.
So a team offers $4.2m, Edmonton likely says goodbye and takes a 2023 2nd. That said, the team that offers has $4.2m tied up in Puljujarvi, who could turn into Nichuskin or Paajarvi.

And Lavoie isn't nhl ready</div></div>
Frees up space in Edmonton - Smith's 2.2m goes on to LTIR. Gauthier replaces Kassian, who's $3.2m becomes $800k for Gauthier + $667k for the buyout, and Edmonton fills a 1-ab goalie position (maybe) and 4th line winger. Puljujarvi is replaced on the Edmonton roster with Lavoie (but could also be replaced with a number of other ELC players that played for Woody in Bakersfield.)

Maybe to the heist, but frees up money to sign players for Edmonton.
Kane might not be resolved until later in the summer, and until his arbitration is complete, who knows where he lands and for how much. I think there's still a chance it is settled out, and I wouldn't be shocked to see him line up with McDavid again.

More Cap Movement
Kassian's buyout is only a $667k cap hit for the upcoming season. I can see them buying him out rather than attaching assets (although a team with a cap surplus might like him, as his cap hit for the next two seasons is 600k more than his salary.)

Winning the Cup
If Puljujarvi's willing to sign 1 year at $2.5m, I'd rather just keep him as he'd be an RFA at the end of that contract, which is worth more than Kerfoot who will be UFA at the end of next year.
That said, if Puljujarvi is willing to sign for 4 years at $2.5m as you've listed, I'm thinking you'd have to throw in more for Edmonton to move him.
