Friedman sorokin
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeygoalie53</b></div><div>This is complete horsecrap. Until Lou took over, Sorokin had no interest in coming to the NHL under the previous regime, nor did he ever try and force the Isles to trade him. Now, with rumors swirling since last year that he was coming to the Island next season, he's suddenly trying to force a trade?? Makes literally no sense at all. Not to mention most speculate the reason Lou went after Varly (and let fan favorite Lehner walk) was to guarantee that Sorokin comes over.
As has been already mentioned, this seems more like a tactic to force the isles to burn his 1 ELC year, so he can sign a better deal as an RFA.</div></div>
Exactly my thoughts

Ho-sang
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>2 pts in 10 games but statistically the islanders were a better team when he was on the ice , and that’s a fact. He was also solid defensively which took away from creating offense, just like most other players last year. But you probably don’t care about that since you seem to despise Ho-sang.
I don’t want Ho-sang to play for the islanders, his time his up, and he had every right to ask for a trade. Trotz said he had a great camp and basically did everything right to make the team. That’s coming from the coach - if I’m Ho-sang I’d ask for a trade as well</div></div>
The problem I have with it now is that Lou is being framed by some members of the fanbase for intentionally trying to sabotage him. That could not be further from the truth. JHS was assigned to Bridgeport, and he didn't report. It starts and ends there. They needed a RW five games into the season but JHS wasn't there. Its his fault and his fault only.

If Dobson is returned to junior
He’s not going back to juniors - he was statiscally the best player on the ice tonight. Had a bad 1st and was solid in the 2nd + 3rd.
Trotz on Dobson tonight : “I thought he played well. The hockey iq, the poise, it’s outstanding.”

Laine to NY
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeygoalie53</b></div><div>Wilde had a down year the year in 17-18 (before he was drafted), which is why he slipped to the 2nd round, when most had him going in the Top 15 of the 1st round. He had an excellent year last year in the OHL (70pts) in 62 games in his first year of professional hockey. He's considered, by many, to be the biggest steal of the 2018 draft... so not sure where you are getting that he had a "mediocre" year last year??
As for Laine, I get what you're saying, but Laine has shown NO inclination to learn the D side of his game. Trotz was able to get Ovie to become a more defensive player, so I would argue he can do the same with Laine... IF Laine is willing. You just don't trade a blue chip prospect or a #1 D for someone who, as you put it "if he develops (this) or (that)...".
I want Laine on the Isles and I think he's a piece that could put them over the top, but I'm not sacrificing our D to get him. Pulock became out #1 D-man last year and is on his way to becoming Trouba-esque, I'm not trading him for Laine under any circumstances. Dobson has a real chance to make the Isles this coming season, just a year after being drafted and could be better than Pulock in the long run... Him being on an ELC is something the Isles are going to need as they wait for contracts like Ladd/Boychuk/Etc to expire... again, not trading that for Laine.
The package of Leddy (Top 4 Dman), Wahlstrom and Wilde (2 TOP Prospects) and a 1st is enough. In fact, if I'm being honest, it's almost too much to give up. Leddy, one of Wahlstrom/Wilde, a lesser prospect and a 2020 1st should be enough, imo.</div></div>
As the OP I totally agree with this take hence why I made the trade what I did (2 top prospects, top 4 Dman, 1st rd pick). Also without shedding Leddy’s salary and subbing in a lesser prospect, the isles would probably be over the cap ceiling after extending Laine unless maybe Beauvillier would be included instead. That being said, I would actually trade Pulock for Laine, but only if it was straight up. Otherwise not worth it isles are better off keeping Pulock and making a deal elsewhere.

It's definitely a rich trade. And probably gets it done. But compared to that deal, IMO it's almost better to try and sign to a $10.5x5 and make it a really tough decision for WPG. Compensation is only 2 1st's, 1 2nd and a 3rd.

Isles if we kept Tavares
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeygoalie53</b></div><div>Lou was brought in before JT left and worked to get him resigned, so the thinking that if JT stayed the Isles wouldn't have gone after Lou, Trotz and Korn isn't accurate. The Isles wanted to change the culture of the team and bring a winner FOR Tavares... despite doing that he decided to leave for what he thought were greener pastures and an easier chance at winning a cup in TOR.
And before any Leafs fans comment that I'm another salty Isles fan, I don't hate Tavares for his decision to go home and play for Toronto. I do believe he could have handled the situation better and been more open and upfront with the Isles regarding his intentions given what he meant to this Franchise.
Also having said that, it's not coincidence that Tavares leaving made the Isles a better team last year. They had a chip on their shoulder to show people they were more than just Tavares. They did that in spades last season and I don't necessarily agree with some of the people claiming it was luck and they will crash this year. The players, as a whole, bought into the team concept Lou and Trotz brought with them. I believe that, along with Trotz' coaching, is what will keep this team a playoff team going forward.</div></div>
Very well said, couldn’t be said it better myself

According to sources, the Winnipeg Jets have held internal discussions about trading Laine to the eastern conference. While the team is set on choosing Kyle Connor over Laine, they continue to work the phones on what type of return Laine could pull in.
New Jersey, Columbus and Detroit have all called Winnipeg inquiring about Laine's services. The Jets would be looking for an NHL defenseman, and NHL ready top prospect.

Jets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KPasty</b></div><div>As a Jets fan the return package has decent value. However if I'm Winnipeg and I'm trading away from a position of strength at wing (Wheeler, Laine, Roslovic, Connor, Vesalainen) a cost controlled top line winger who has 70-80 point potential I would not want a package such as this. I would be using this trade chip to acquire what is our biggest glaring weakness. At this point it is a Top 4 D. Preferably on the right side. If im the Jets I'm asking for Pulock and nothing less. The Isle are not in "win now" and can afford to wait on Dobson and Wilde to make the transition to the NHL in to those top 4 spots.
I don't necessarily know what the package or balance looks to make that deal happen. But I don't think the Jets make that original deal. If Ehlers is the ask, a current Top 4 D needs to be the return. No point in dealing an asset in a position of strength for anything less than a glaring need.</div></div>
I’m not sure if you watch many islander games , but mayfield is a 2nd pairing Dman. The islanders are in “win now” mode after re-signing lee , eberle , and Nelson who are all in their primes and will be 30 in a few years. Pulock is a #1 D and after the jets refused to pay Trouba what he wanted, I highly doubt they’re going to want to sign pulock to a long term deal at 6-7 mill AAV when they have to re-sign Morrissey as well. If they don’t want mayfield, maybe nick leddy works instead-

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeygoalie53</b></div><div>Lou has gotten all his resigns to sign for less than anyone thought, so I'm betting on that continuing to happen hence Toews getting a year and 1m less per than Girard, but even if he got a Girard deal the extra 1m is doable. Lee could have easily gotten 8m per on the open market, same with Nelson (especially after that awful Hayes deal) and Eberle could have probably gotten between 6 and 6.5m in FA as well. These guys want to be here and feel they have something special with this team. I wouldn't be surprised if that trend continues with further contracts.
As for Barzal, I think he'd have to have a Marner-esque year to get the conversation to even come close to 10m per. It's obviously possible given what he did his rookie year, but with Trotz' system it won't be easy for him.
I'm also gonna say, and this is purely speculation on my part, but with the way this team has bonded since JT left, I can see one or more of these guys taking less money (similar to Kucherov) to allow the team to remain competitive for the duration of their contracts.</div></div>
Listen I hope you’re right haha. LL did a great job with the Nelson and eberle contracts. He had to give Lee more term but that’s a deal that had to get done.

Frolik is a great 2-way player that can play left or right up and down the line up (super versatile) his issue is hes about 750k over paid for what he provides. Hes also strong on the PK. He would be a strong addition to any team trying to sure up their middle 6.

Islanders okay with this deal
Definitely not. Mayfield is on a steal of a contract and is penciled into the Top-4. I expect Pulock-Mayfield-Dobson down the right side with Boychuk spelling in as a 7th man every so often (his body isn't able to take the full freight of a season any more).
Eakin fills our 3C role for one season. Doesn't make sense to give up years more control of Mayfield. Isles can just sign Boyle or something who is of equal talent
After this season Mayfield could be dealt - but for at least a 2nd round pick or decent prospects. Pulock-Dobson-Wilde is the future
--- Edit: if the Isles were to give up Mayfield, Gusev needs to be coming back to even consider it. If you wanted to expand the package (where Isles add pieces) Mayfield for Smith is ok framework as well

Besides, I think it's been said over and over that Williams is likely returning to CAR or retiring.</div></div>
Agreed Boyle is a nice to have, but time to let the young wings Dal Colle, Ho-Sang and maybe even Bellows. Plus I don’t think they can send down Ho-Sang, he would need to go on waivers and someone would definitely pick him up.

I don't see Paul Byron as a top-6 F, so there isn't a need to trade for his $3.4 x 4 contract and give up a good prospect in Beau (who is better than Lehkonen) and an expiring deal in Matt Martin. The picks make the deal even less tolerable.
While Leddy should be traded, it won't be for another D. It's a parallel move. Isles need legit top-6 F (not Byron lol) for Leddy. And in fact, they are actually giving one up in this trade with Bailey. No sense for the Isles to make this trade

Devils trade: Hell no for many reasons. We don't need more RHDs, we have a bajillion. We're not trading Leddy or Bailey within the division. Zacha hasn't shown anything in the NHL worth trading significant assets for.
Bruins trade: Don't really see a point. I'd rather waive Johnston and send him to the minors. The organization seems to love him. A 5th round pick provides no value and it's not like trading Johnston will bring us any big cap savings.
Canadiens trade: Horrible value for NYI. I'd rather keep Beau and hope he becomes consistent than trade him away for a couple of middle-6 forwards. We should be moving picks and prospects so we can add to the team, not swap players for players (unless it's bad for good, obviously).

Most Isles fans would tell you they'd rather keep Leddy, but in a CAP world when you have younger versions of players ready to step in, you trade the older guy while you still can.</div></div>
Yup, this is exactly it. And I understand the skepticism coming from outside fans, but we all love Leddy. He just holds value from a position of strength.
