So basically the Wild are trading their boat for a box that might contain a boat...?

In the past two posts you've told everyone that 1) just because a guy is playing in a certain role doesn't mean he belongs there, and 2) that points aren't the be all end all for defensemen.
SO close</div></div>
I've been arguing so much lately with Canucks fans, I forgot how bad Habs fans were. Literally the worst fanbase and it's not even close.

Wild next season
Can't see the Wild spending assets to get a $6.5m third pairing RHD when they have Bogo who has been decent as a 2nd pairing player and ideally won't have to play as much next year behind a healthy Spurgeon and Faber.
Ideally.
Gaudreau hasn't been good lately, but he's fine enough if overpaid as a 4C, ideally playing behind something like JEEK > Rossi > Khusnutdinov.

You have the pick on the wrong side of that cap dump there for Minnesota. No way they're taking Kampf on next year without some incentive, they have enough depth forwards.

To ask the Wild to retain money next year when they're still cap strapped, it better be a 1st coming back to make it worth it. Especially to a divisional rival.

I like this for the Avs. Duhaime will fit in nice on their 4th line in exchange for a pick that MIGHT sniff the NHL in 2029.
RIP the Canucks ACGMs saying Duhaime is worth a 6th or a 7th.

I'll never understand people who comment that a GM "should have gotten so much more", like Calgary went through the effort of talking to multiple teams and decided "I think I'll take the worst offer on the table". This was apparently the best offer available and they managed to get a 1st+ for a player they were going to lose for nothing. Vegas gets an upgrade and Philly gets a pick for cap space they weren't going to use. Seems like a fair deal all around to me.

Minnesota Wild signed Zach Bogosian (2 Years / $1,250,000 AAV)
Meh. Contract is basically buriable if he's terrible and they'd probably get a 5th round pick at best so might as well keep him and bring him back to take some of the load off Faber.
With Spurgeon out, he's played well enough on the 2nd pair for a guy that should be playing 3rd pair minutes. He's been one of the first to stand up for Kaprizov if the other team targets him and he's been decent on defense. Assuming Spurgeon is back to his usual level next year, Bogo will be just fine at this salary on the bottom pair. Minnesota's defense hasn't been great this year, but that's not on him really. Mermis, Goligoski, and Merrill have been the problem. Probably worth mentioning the Wild have nothing for defense prospects that are right shot and will be ready for a NHL role next year. I don't see this as being a problem at that cap hit. Again, if he's bad you can just bury him and move on.

Middleton instead
Can't say Broberg would be of much interest to the Wild, they have a lot of defense in their prospect pool they'll need to start playing soon. A 2nd in 2 years? If that's the best offer, the Wild will just keep Middleton and see what the market looks like in the summer or trade deadline.

There would be more, the 5th is just for the 25% retention. I just didn't feel like putting in whatever Vegas sends to Ottawa since they were just a placeholder for any contender that wants him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vancity2196</b></div><div>Do you think Merrill and Duhaime would be good fits for the Canucks?
Tarasenko isn't a good fit in Minny - Maybe a team like Vegas, Boston, Edmonton, Vancouver, etc would acquire him at the Trade Deadline.</div></div>
Duhaime would be good for a playoff team. Merrill.. I have no idea why Vancouver supposedly would want him. Supposedly Russo said they were interested. To be fair, he's not terrible if his minutes are limited. He's fine in a pinch for bottom pairing duties, but I just don't see him as being a dman suited for playoff style hockey so that's why it sounds odd to me that supposedly Vancouver is interested.
Tarasenko isn't staying in Minnesota, they're just retaining 25% and sending him to a contender that needs scoring. In this case, I said Vegas because they have some room with Stone being out.

Absolutely no chance the Wild remotely consider that. First they'd need Middleton if they're trying to go for it, which trading for Guentzal would imply. Second their team is worse than the team they had last year when they didn't move a top prospect or a 1st for any rental help so it doesn't make any sense for them to do it this year. If they want Guentzal for next year, they'll either talk to his agent July 1st or trade considerably less to whoever gets him as a rental to get his rights in June to try to negotiate before he hits the open market.

Sounded like Maroon was supposed to be out just past the TDL, if I'm not mistaken. He should be back for the home stretch and any potential playoff games.

Has this been said recently? The most recent thing I've seen is Guerin saying Fleury has earned the right to decide and they'll have that conversation soon, but that was just within the last week he said that and I haven't seen anything since. My guess was they'd chat a couple days before the deadline and see where the team is at in the standings before making a decision.

No chance the Wild give up a capable top 4 dman on a deal they can afford next year to take on another $2m+ bottom 6 player they don't need in Kampf. They don't need Robertson either with the wingers they have and will need to find a place for in the next year. The 1st doesn't make it worth it.

Preds Deadline
Only way I could see the Wild doing that is if they have any clarity on what Spurgeon's future looks like and if an extension would work. Since they're unlikely to any idea what Spurgeon's future is until later this summer at the absolute earlier, the most I can see them doing this deadline is looking at cheap plugs to try to upgrade their defense if they can get back into a playoff spot.
