Totally completely realistic offseason to set us up for cap hell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jerry17381</b></div><div>Yeah I get that, I was reading through some of the SJS Armchair GMs and half of them were calling for a rebuild while the other half wanted the team to go all-in
True but if it makes the team better in the long run I think most people would forgive (especially if the FO spins it). Like if Kuzy went out and shined for the team and you were guaranteed 4 more years of him I think most fans would forgive.
Side note: is there any chance SJS trades Evander Kane? If so what do you think he would command</div></div>
He just led the team in scoring, but anyone can get traded. 1st for sure and a good prospect.

Don't think he would get 9-10M from anyone as a UFA, especially with the cap staying flat.

Go ahead and propose some of those offers and see if other fans will take it for an expiring UFA.
I love it when people come in and say “that’s not enough” or “he’ll get more elsewhere” and have nothing to back it up. Be constructive or be quiet.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rpain</b></div><div>Your problem is having VV valued as a 2nd. Especially with the expansion draft the market is flooded with ok goalies. He's a 25 year old goalie with 1 year in the league and put up average-ish numbers playing on a high quality team. He has potential and a cheap cap hit but the Oilers would probably be more likely to re-sign Stalock than give up an asset for Vancek.</div></div>
Im not sure what goalie prospects the Oilers have, so i hesistate to say this, but I dont see why the Oilers wouldn't go for this trade. Washington may need to add a slight bit more, but Edmonton gets a young starter caliber goalie to boot koskinen from the rotation, and vanacek only being 25 would be a good future goalie.

Capitals Realistic Offseason
I don't see the Caps replacing Hagelin with another winger over $2mil. If/when he is moved, they'll get another value player or cycle through some prospects. Same thing with Kempny/Jensen - they'd move Kempny, the rusty LD, before they move Jensen, the capable RD. Overall strategy, though, I think you've got nailed. Count me in the camp with you that thinks Eller is not as safe as some believe.

I'd kill for Hertl. Would love for that to happen.
No way Caps trade away Eller unless they absolutely have to. Kempny isn't coming back from that injury and being 2nd pair, think his top 4 days are over. And Fehervary will definitely be on the team.

Don't think McMichael is ready for 2C duty. He's played virtually no NHL games. Breaking him in at 3C seems better, but not sure that happens immediately in 2021. Eller is a superb 3C and I suspect McMichael would be a slight downgrade, at least at first, compared to Eller.

Dealing with other underperforming teams
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>papishark</b></div><div>Whats with the Dillon hate? I didnt see much washington this year but his advanced stats show that he was far better this year and is a better D than Jensen and TVR and miles ahead of Kempny.</div></div>
I liked him and thought he played pretty well this year, especially paired with TVR (when Schultz was out with face problems, ;) ), when he was put on the top pair with Carlson he struggled but I think he doesn't belong on the top pair anyway. He's well liked, retrieves the puck fine and is tough. I like him better than Schultz myself but you will get another cap fan who will feel the opposite as me. Caps fans seem split on their opinion of him. BUT, if he or Schultz (hopefully) get picked in the expansion draft, no one will really cry about it because we have LHD Fehrevary who is ready to take on a full time role next year per Brian McClellan.

idk Penguins want to get gritty and your GMs have a history of making terrible deals to accomplish this... new GM but same story line. imo

Schultz is out for TvR. Depending on McM's performance in camp, he could make the roster. Also, Orlov and Jensen as the first pairing should be really good based on their performance while on the ice together this season:
115:04 in TOI / 56.92 CF% / 58.23 FF% / 62.86 SF% / 78.57 GF% / 63.10 xGF%</div></div>

Sticking around to break a record that the league thinks everyone wants to see.....even though he's dead weight and the team is suffering for it.
The term needs to be shorter and the deal for far less.</div></div>
One year not at elite production and everyone freaks out. Saying he's dead weight is a complete overreaction, and note that he still scored 24 goals and had 42 points in another shortened season. Not only does his talent command the money and term given, but saying that he is just sticking around to break the record is completely wrong, and it seems a lot more likely he is sticking it out to play with Backstrom, thus why he would do a 4 year deal to sync up with Backstrom. And to say the capitals are suffering because of him is just 1000% wrong.

I really struggle to understand why people can't wrap their head around the idea that a trade like that can be made to any team that wants him for that price. I scrolled down, picked a random team, and made the trade. I don't need Canes fans coming in here and telling me that that's the trade that makes everything in this scenario fall apart.

Whats the deal with Samsonov and Vitacek
GMBM just said that they want to give Samsonov another shot next year to take the reins as the starter. Vanecek was pretty good this year, but he was also inconsistent.
There's a couple of options for the Caps:
1. Expose Vanacek and let the Kraken take him if they want
2. Sprong could definitely be selected.
3. Make a trade with the Kraken to select Dillon/Schultz for a bit of sweeteners added)

Pretty great job overall, just some small criticisms though
- Ovi probably only gets 3 years
- Good job with meeting the value, but Batherson is probably untouchable.
- Anderson isn't the best backup option
